So there’s a number of reasons for this: 1). it’s actually much eaiser to wire up than the mouthpiece component (a lot of the additional electronics that drives the mouthpiece resides in the original base unit) and 2). the earpiece speaker works really well to recreate that classic telephone sound on the audio signal. So, in short - less wiring/components needed, and a great sound achieved! @The Systems Creative
