Replying to @via_1157 variable reinforcement is what we call this! We have to turn our pups into gamblers and make ot exciting that they never onow quite when the treat is coming but they know its around the corner! I recommend always treating for new or difficult behaviors but maybe seitching to every 3rd or 5th time when teaching the variable reinforcement rate aka “sometimes you get a treat and sonetines you don’t” #howto #dogtraining #animalbehavior #techpawlogy #techpaw
🐶 They are not a one-size-fits-all bark for dogs, and can be emotionally complex. Dogs bark when they are excited, frightened, lonely, surprised, irritated, and more. That means there are different barks for different moods.
A dog can vary the pitch of a bark, the number of barks in a row, and the space between barks in order to change the bark’s meaning. The lower the bark, the more serious the dog. Consider the barks your dog makes when a stranger is coming up the front walk compared to those he makes when you walk in the door. The first is alerting the house to a possible intruder, whereas the second is saying welcome home” and is likely higher in tone. A lonely dog will also make higher-pitched barks to request companionship, sometimes rising in tone to sound almost like a complaining yelp.
We may not know every meaning of barks but with some study and practice you can tell how your dog is feeling and when to ask for the off button or when to know when something is wrong!

🐕 You can teach an old dog new tricks but you only have three months to shape their perception of the world.
Did you know dogs are considered puppies and “blank slates” until about 3-months old! This is where all of the core wiring happens. Training as a puppy is so important because you are teaching your dog how to relate and what to expect out of the world. Bad habits, fear, reactivity tend to kick in about 6-8 months and 1-2 years.
Most issues are a matter of miscommunication and could be solved by early training; teaching our puppies how to relate to the world they live in.

It may not be a surprise that dog breeds matter a lot to our lifestyles! The number one reason people get a specific dog is because of how it looks and they often don’t think of how this dog will be wired to live in their lives. So before you look for your next companion do a little bit of research or hang out with the breed through a friend, rescue or volunteer position so you know what to expect for the next decade that dog will be in your life! 😇🐕

Let's talk about what makes our cats unique! 🐈
Cats' brains are finely tuned to processing senses in the nervous system for quick response instead of deep thinking (this is why cats are so tuned into sounds, sight and smell and can seem constantly distracted!) Why does a cat jump five feet high when a loud sound happens? Why do they hiss at a pet returning from the groomer? They are experiencing an entirely different world than we are with wiring that encourages action straight from sensory input. This is why we train cats! We work out systems that encourage favorable responses to the stimuli of living with humans. It’s always fun to learn about cats before we expect them to speak human! #techpawlogy #techpawtips

Cats have learned to communicate with us as well as learning to tolerate other cats; they began to adapt to sharing their lives with humans; a process known as socialization. In order for adult cats to be affectionate with humans, they need to be handled between 2-7 weeks after birth. Three factors determine a cat's ability to interact:
1.) The more a kitten is handled, the friendlier it will be (40 minutes a day are friendlier than those handled for only 15 minutes; up to one hour of handling, then the effect does not increase.)
2.) The more individuals who handle a kitten, the more accepting it will be of new people in the future.
3.) Generalizing a kitten to what a "human" is: women, men, children, adults and elderly. It's important for cats to have a variety of exposure. ___________________________________________________________ (The Cat: A Natural and Cultural History by Dr. Sarah Brown)

🐈 Did you know that cats’ tail movements can reveal a lot about their emotions?
A tail held high or “flagpole” typically indicates confidence and happiness, while a twitching tail can signal excitement or playfulness. On the other hand, a tail that is held low or tucked between the legs can indicate fear or insecurity. So next time you’re interacting with your feline friend, take a moment to observe their tail – it might give you some insight into their current mood!

“Clicker is Quicker!”
Clicker training is one of the ways cats learn best! How to get your cat clicker trained.
1. Pair click with treat (one click = one tossed treat)
2. Once cat’s get excited and look for the treat with the click it’s time to click for a behavior.
Ex. Touching nose to target stick = click + tossed treat
3. Once the click is established as the “Good Job, you did it” signal we move to teaching new things and telling our cats they did it with the click! (Ex. Guiding a cat into a sit and clicking when the butt hits the ground = treat)💫 🐈
