this has been one of my favorite songs for ages, one that I always come back to when I’m looking to feel chills, especially Chet Baker’s rendition. gentle, soothing, but also dark and brooding, it’s always been a love song whose lyrics kind of made me uncomfortable (but in a good way?)
the other night, after looking into it further, my friends and i found out that the lyrics were originally from a woman to a man named “Valentine”, in the musical “Babes in Arms”, which kinda blew my whole perception of this song open even more.
