This past Sunday, Pastor Jonathan pointed out a theme in many of the morning's lessons: forgiveness. He points out that Peter views forgiveness to be transactional when he asks God how many times he must forgive those who have wronged him. Forgiveness can be very difficult, and calls us to step out of our comfort zone and communicate with those we have hurt or who have hurt us. When forgiveness feels like too heavy a burden, how can we embolden ourselves to seek the courage to forgive others as God forgives us each day?

Let love be genuine. These words give us the opportunity to reflect on the way that we love those whom we encounter each day, and the importance of making sure that we are not just considering ourselves and our feelings as we love those around us. How can we remember that God simply asks us to love others? How can we embolden ourselves to love those around us, in the genuine way that God asks of us?

On Sunday, Father Tim decided to let the congregation guide his sermon, and asked them to submit questions that they had. Some questions were based on the morning's readings, while others went as far as contemplating the meaning of life and wondering what happens to us after we leave this world. One member of the congregation asked how we may live a Godly life, even in the midst of all that is happening in our world, and Father Tim had some encouraging words for all in attendance to leave with.
What are some other ways that we can align our actions with what God wants of us, so that we may live a more Godly life?

Just as Jesus was able to change to serve those who were crying out for help, so must we. How is God calling us to change? What changes can we make as a church, as a community, and as individuals to serve those who are crying out for help?

In this past Sunday's readings, Jesus's disciples found themselves in a terrible night storm after being loaded on to a boat. Through this storm, they likely had some concerns and doubts about Jesus, and where he could be when they needed him the most. When they awoke the next morning to Jesus walking on the water toward them, he told them not to be afraid, and calmed both the storm and the boat full of disciples.
While the storms that we weather in our lives may not always be literal storms like the one in this story, we still have storms to endure, and it can be difficult to wait for God to help us when we are in need of it. In these times, how can we embolden ourselves to be more like the disciples in the boat, with the faith that God will not abandon us and will come to calm our storm?

This past Sunday, Father Tim shared with the congregation some of the articles that he read during his recent travels. As he read about the decreasing number of people attending church year after year, he was struck by one statistic in the article he was reading, which spoke to how few people are intentionally creating community in their lives. As a faith community, we understand the importance of community on our mental wellbeing and on the wellbeing of the greater community as well. What can we as a faith community offer to those who are struggling to find relationships and make community?

Each of us has the Kingdom of God within us, and we see so much evidence of this within our faith community. Each time we serve our community or help our neighbors, we are sharing with them the Kingdom of God. It is important that we spread this love to all around us, and not just those that we are close to and that we love. If we want to truly live into the Kingdom of God within us, we must learn to share it with others.

During our last Tuesday evening bell concert of the summer, we had a very special piece played by one of our new chimers! Charlie learned to play Amazing Grace on our bells, so that he could play it for his grandmother Grace. We are so blessed to have a community filled with so much love and thoughtfulness!

During Sunday's sermon, Father Tim reflected on the psalm we heard earlier in the service, and noted how the psalmists did not give up on God even during their prayers and protest. We may have days when it feels as if God is not listening, or that God does not hear our prayers, but we can turn to the psalms of lament for hope during these times. Just as the psalmists waited for God to answer their prayers during their protest, we can also find our way to a deeper relationship with God through our lament.
