Ten years ago today, I met and adopted Ivy! She was an unnamed 6-10 month old 14lb stray found near the Orlando airport. She had an embedded collar, an upper respiratory infection, and a skin infection. She smelled terrible and was missing patches of fur. At animal control, she was in isolation due to illness and I almost left thinking she had been adopted (thank goodness I asked for help locating her—you need an escort to that area). The second I met her, she laid at my feet and I knew she was meant to be mine! I had to wait 3 days to bring her home (she had to be spayed) but I visited her everyday and brought her beds and blankets. She gained 3lbs a week for a month and quickly transformed into the 45lbs gremlin you see today. Sookie and Ivy didn’t meet for 3 weeks due to Ivy’s respiratory infection but they got along from the get go! I think Sookie knew she needed our love. I don’t know much about her life before me, just that animal control received several calls about a stray trying to get into houses 🥺 (this breaks my heart, she was probably so scared). She had to have belonged to someone at some point given she had a collar. She was likely tied up or left in a crate 24/7 based on poor paw muscle development. She runs a bit floppy to this day ☹️
