On the 6th of may, 2023, I lost my father. He left me with this gem, which we filmed in December 2022. I pray and hope that he is in a better place.
In the Living With Diabetes series finale, he was my guest. He speaks about the hardships of raising kids with diabetes and how he managed to overcome them with love.

This is the Living With Diabetes finale outro. Itโs a recitation of a poem titled โGuardian Angelโ dedicated to my late father. He was my guest in the Living With Diabetes finale.

Earlier this year, a diabetes NPO, Sweet Life, posted a page featured in the national Grade 6 textbook which had inaccurate information about diabetes.
One day my niece came back from school and told me about the same page as they were learning about it in school. She knew the information taught was incorrect because she grew up surrounded by diabetes.
As Sweet Life stated, โItโs SO important to have accurate information shared about diabetes - particularly to the next generation.โ
It is time we tackle and overcome the diabetes stigma from a young age.

As someone who understands how much our childhood experiences and environment influence our lives, I decided to have a Q&A session about diabetes with my niece, nephew, and son on the 15th episode of Living With Diabetes.
Most stigmas start from early childhood development. In this episode, I aim to tackle the diabetes stigma from the ground up. Since theyโve been seeing my sister and I injecting ourselves with insulin ever since they were born, I gave them leeway to ask me anything about diabetes.

Today is my first birthday without my dad, and this was my last birthday with him.
Last year he decided to take us out for our birthdays, along with my mom, to have a word with us. It's like he knew deep down that it was the last time we'd celebrate our birthdays with him. Deep down, we also knew that it could be our last birthday with him around. At times I thought he was immortal because he would get sick every year from 2015 or something, and he would get back up and work his ass off for us.
He had these words to say on my birthday last year. It wasn't the last time he got to say these words to me, as he would use every opportunity heโd get to tell me how much he loved me and was proud of me. Unfortunately, it was his last opportunity to say them on my birthday, just as he had anticipated.
Iโll have a happy birthday knowing that my father died a proud manโฆproud and happy to have me as a son. ๐๐๐
