I found a copy of this book on chatelaines in great condition and had to snatch it up! It has hundreds of beautiful images of different versions of this once popular accessory. The chatelaine was used to carry important everyday items like keys, watches, sewing supplies, small purses, and more. It also became a stylish symbol of status. I’ve been working on some ideas and designs for a modern day chatelaine ever since I fell In love with them in undergrad, but it always gets pushed aside by other projects. WIP! I wanted to create a few special items for the Hill House release and I’ve always wanted to try out block printing. I sketched out a design of the door to the red room, transferred it to a rubber block, and spent a whole evening carving away. I tested it out a few times to practice and play around a bit so the prints at the end of the reel are rough and the ink isn’t perfect, but it gives you an idea. I’m working on a small stamp to add one more detail to all that empty space too, so everything isn’t quite done yet. I tested the stamp on both a plain white printmaking paper and an off white lokta plant paper.
