I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a painting fog for the past few weeks. Im spending so much time of thinking of what pieces/ sizes/ compositions I need to do next to complete work for two upcoming shows.
It’s stressful but also so fun. Im at the fun part now, where I know I can actually achieve the workload but it was touch and go there a few weeks ago! I thought I might crumble under the pressure. I’ve never really been one of those people that thrives under stress.
Now I’m on the good side and just going to focus on enjoying my last few paintings and making them as good as I possibly can 😊

How I paint hair.
Start with the darkest colour. Come in with the cool tones, then warm tones, then back in with the dark to overlap. A few goes of this and then end with the tiny wispy hairs. 🙌

The butterfly featured in the painting is a Red Admiral or Kahukura- endemic to New Zealand.
The Māori translation for Kaukura means ‘red cloak’, I thought that was a fitting name for this piece.
This painting was really a happy accident for me. Playing around on photoshop and accidentally cropped my picture.
