@Sarah introcuing me to the what about me effect has kinda changed my life.
thinking about the 'what about me?' effect and how the internet and algorithms have made us expect that everything we see on our feed (or IRL) should be perfectly tailored to us. this expectation has made us extremely self-centred and is the reason why when we see something that doesn't apply to us we may feel the need to comment asking "what about me and my incredibly niche circumstance???"
but next time we feel personally attacked by something that comes across our feed because we don’t feel like it was directly made or meant for us… it’s because it wasn’t.
and that’s okay ◡̈
