France has a certain reputation for its penchant for protest. It's not just a stereotype: The country has a long tradition of sometimes-radical political protests, one that goes back to at least the 19th century.

The song, Un Violador en Tu Camino, was created by Las Tesis, a small group of South American women and their name means “the theses” to show their interest in feminist theory whilst marrying music and dance together and referencing Argentinian-born anthropologist Rita Segato’s theories about tackling violence against women by dismantling male power structures.
The song has a powerful message about how rape doesn’t happen in a political vacuum and it’s welded to the patriarchal power structures to keep women controlled.
This dance protest went viral in 2020 with dancers copying it all throughout South America to women chanting it on the streets of Paris and Washington. The message is universally understood and the dance routine is easy to learn and which lends itself in being highly shareable on social media with the power to resonate with all women.
