Have you ever wondered what it's like to spend a day with us at the San Diego Police Department? Well, let us take you through our incredible day with @SDSWAC at the annual Shop With a Cop event!

We joined hands with over 300 federal, state, local, and tribal officers from all over San Diego county for the Shop With a Cop event, creating lasting memories with 300 wonderful third graders.

Our adventure began with the thrilling sound of police sirens as we escorted 300 enthusiastic third graders on a lively police car ride to @SeaWorldSanDiego. Followed by a delightful breakfast where the kids learned they'd each receive four tickets to return with their families.

The joy on everyone's faces was witnessing our very own #SoutheasternDivision Sergeant Thomas, a skilled dolphin trainer, run out on stage to lead a captivating show in his one-of-a-kind SDPD wetsuit.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we spotlight Officer Esteban Herrera from our Traffic Division—a critical unit managing serious injury collisions and solving felony hit-and-run cases. Before his role at SDPD, Officer Herrera was a Community Service Officer at the Palomar College Police Department for nearly a decade. His drive and values mirror the life lessons from his parents, who journeyed to the U.S. from Mexico. Officer Herrera shares, "Coming from parents who came with nothing and started with nothing in the States, the amount of work I saw and the humbleness they carried up to this date always made me realize you never know what people are going through in their personal life. They always taught me to work hard no matter what I did. They always taught respect everyone." Outside of his official duties, Officer Herrera has a robust love for Hispanic music, a passion that led him to teach himself several instruments. They pour countless hours of training with their four-legged partners on a regular basis. During scenario-based training, the officer and his K9 are exposed to loud sounds, different scents, lighting conditions, weather and in this case different environmental conditions, such as swimming in the ocean! Scenarios can range from deployment strategies, detecting narcotics or explosives, de-escalation techniques, contacting a barricaded suspect, high-risk traffic stops, assisting with patrol operations, and much more! The life of a K9 handler and his pup can be very exciting and rewarding. Do you have what it takes to become a K9 officer?
