I went to the dark side. There are a lot of problems with setting up tubeless tires for the first time. If you have an air compressor or CO2, it helps dramatically but I saw so many videos of people who only used a floor pump. I’m stubborn so I also wanted to do it with just the floor pump. Stretching out the new tires with the tube was the best way to get the bead to set. It was intimidating to start, but now that I’ve done it, I am excited for more tubeless adventures. I have no idea how I got such a bad flat within the first 5 miles of riding these new tires. Ha ha ha. I have to fix this before I start riding the VTXL on Friday. It’s a 300 off road route from the top of Vermont to the bottom. This was the perfect day: biking + Royal Farms. They literally never disappoint. Biking through populated areas is always a challenge, but it was worth it. Anything a cyclist could want, you can get at Rofo (I heard it’s not too bad for cars either 😉)

I wanted to be a bike messenger when I was younger so maybe I’m just living out my fantasy. The cake added a whole new mental strain that I didn’t expect. Going slower on bumps, wondering if it was doing ok, fear that the cooler was going to break. I was wiped out the next day.

Here's my rant about gas stations. I put a 10 minute version on YouTube (link on my page). It was honestly really hard to chop down 10 minutes into 90 seconds! Things I like: free water, bathrooms, seating, and employees that don't mind cyclists. I'm a simple man, but some gas stations delivered more than others. I know I'm gonna get some hate mail for this. Bring it on!

Replying to @xareoxi here’s how i would go about searching for a bike. You might not see one on facebook or craigslist immediately, so you just have to keep checking every day for a week or two
This was one of the harder things I’ve done recently. Things got so sketchy on that final road. I was scared because my front light was low battery. There was a dent amount of traffic and absolutely no shoulder. An oncoming car turn their brights on (?) so I couldn’t see the road, and that’s when I hit a pothole and bottomed out my tire. Definitely safer to get picked up.

I maybe could’ve made it to 200 if those last two dunkin were open, but I don’t know if I’m going to try this one again.

I have no idea how someone new to cycling would approach this. I’m guessing they would have to go to a bike shop, but that’s an easy $100-$200 for the service. Knowing how to service bikes makes me love them more. Id love to fight out how to share that intimacy with others

This might be the wildest thing I’ve done in a while. It was an absolute mass of people making me feel like a tiny particle. Keep your eyes peeled for the next one and pray you’re not driving at that time.

It’s important to do community events with strangers. Your sense of place and attachment to your city will change. Life feels more fun. And you get to meet interesting people!
