If we aren’t taking the time to learn, grow, and try new things, what’s the point??
I’ve been wanting to create this little wooden turkey insert for a while but was honestly sort of putting it off. I’ve never used a scroll saw and while my issue isn’t that I was really intimidated, I don’t often like taking the time to slow down and learn new things.
But let me tell you, when I was cutting out that little wooden turkey, I was SO proud of myself. It wasn’t as hard as I thought in the first place, and it’s actually FUN to learn and try new things. And I’m mad I didn’t do it sooner!! Not only because now I feel pretty comfortable around a scroll saw (and I just like it), but ALSO because I discovered my new favorite product!!! Well, it’s not “new,” it’s new to me. To stain the wood, I used @Rust-Oleum Varathane Less Mess Wood Stain in the color Golden Oak and WOW. If you’ve been around a while, you know I usually just grab my paper towel, dip it in the stain and go, but THIS is even better. It’s like a stain stick and it’s not messy AT ALL. It doesn’t have that strong smell like traditional stains do either. I can’t say enough good things honestly.
It's funny that I’ve been putting off this project for so long because now I’m already ready to do another. And I never would’ve known how much I loved it if I hadn’t even tried... if I didn’t put myself out there to learn.

Well… I guess not really but I DO have 6 pets so some days it can feel like it.
3 dogs and 3 cats are not for the weak, and even if you only have 1 pet, I’m sure you can relate to pet fur being a problem. It’s like a never-ending task—I will vacuum or sweep and then on my way to put the vacuum up I’ll see more dog hair. As soon as I get some picked up, it’s back, and double-time.
But I refuse to accept this as my new reality, and I’ve been on the hunt for solutions… and to be honest, I’ve found some good ones. You can call it my pet fur resolution cocktail if you’d like, LOL! It’s a couple different things that paired together, will make all the difference… and I want to share them with you!! Laundry can be a daunting task… but it’s also something to be thankful for.
I recently saw a post that said:
“What a privilege to clean a home that was made dirty by a healthy child playing, dishes that were dirtied because we ate 3 meals, and laundry to be done because we all had clothes to wear today.”
WOW, doesn’t that stop you right in your tracks.
And the funny truth is… you really DO miss it when you can’t do it anymore. Mae was recently home from college and I did her laundry while she was back. Truthfully, I wouldn’t have even expected this from myself… but it was nice. Nice to get to take care of her again, even in a small way. Nice that I CAN do that for her.
It’s kind of funny, but laundry is something we need to be thankful for.

Wait for it! TWO CHOICES! Sometimes people say “I just don’t know how you decorate like that” or “How did you come up with that?” And the truth is— mood boards. Mood boards are the PERFECT way to get your brainstorming out in the open so you can SEE what’s been in your brain. Then, you’ll know if you’re headed in the right direction, or if you don’t actually love what you thought you would (which happens). It’s also a great way to stay on budget. Only lay out things you know are real to you, that you can afford and attain. It’s like seeing a whole room come together in a 1-foot x 1-foot area.
@carpetonefh gave me the starting point I need to build a room I adore. That’s usually all it takes - one good place to jump from! Their 2023 Floorcast is amazing, they sent me the latest samples to use in my room design. I guess you could say I built these room ideas from the ground up.
