“The process of making my mural: The 15 meter, life-size humpback whale is painted with black masonry paint and chalk from the Margate coastline. I have enjoyed exploring the possibilities of this material, creating my own tools and techniques, painting and scratching this soft stone into the image of this giant animal. Chalk is made from tiny marine organisms (plankton) and using this to draw such a huge creature feels meaningful and a great way to talk about the interconnectedness of all living things. The artwork is temporary which I hope helps to illustrates the fragility of the natural world.”
