🦈Fish from your doorstep at Ripples Retreat. The season opens at Ripples on 1st October and is open all year round 5 mins drive down the road below the Upper Mangaotaki bridge.
There are plentiful Rainbow and Brown trout in these clear waters, and you'll be surrounded by stunning scenery.
To fish from Ripples, you just need a valid NZ fishing license and your rod. We are located in the Upper reaches of the Mangaotaki River, which is a beautiful river that flows over a gravel bed, through native bush and mostly open farmland.
This is a very popular area for fishing and it offers many kilometres of excellent fly and spinner water but you will have this section of the river all to yourself. The river is easily wadeable, though there are some very deep pools where the water is slow moving.
While many people prefer to spin fish, it is ideally suited to all forms of fly fishing, especially nymphing. There can also be a very good evening rise in the warmer months (and fish will rise throughout the day, particularly in warm overcast conditions)
Although there is a good population of fish in this area around 0.75-1 kilogram mark, we encourage catch and release.

As well as our King four poster bed, we have 2 other beds cleverly tucked away in their own alcove with an opening window and a high ceiling.
They are sooo cosy!! and we also have a super comfy single bed size window seat if you have a family of 6 and need an extra bed.
