For me it was a nice homage to 7Life, and fit with the song concept well. When 7 decided to move on from his career emceeing to head to Bible college he gave me his chain, put it on my neck and told me "I'm passing the mantle on to you" 🏅
I never really told anyone that story.. probably cause I wasn't really sure what that meant, or the depth of it. I hope I have honored that blessing somehow. I'm an entertainer, and not much of a preacher, but I try to be true to who I am and on the mic and write with transparency 🎤. I wrote this song because after a while, you realize one of the most important things you can do is learn to live with yourself, and accept who you are. Not necessarily the easiest thing in the world, especially if you got some regrets to live with.
Lie to me and tell me you trust me... 😂 but seriously, you're great just the way you are. That's not to say you don't try to become a better person or give yourself personal goals to achieve, but if you're not already comfortable in your own skin, the journey forward can be that much more difficult. I strongly believe in the idea of having grace for other people and I think that starts at home. Have a grace for yourself... Give yourself a break. 🕊️

He sent me the beat for this song, and it was easy to catch a vibe to, the song sort of just poured out of me. I love it when that happens because a lot of the time I have to push myself through the writing process.

Shooting this video 🎥 with my guy @agapekevlar on my second visit to Japan is such an indelible memory. We didn't have much, just an iPhone5 and a couple ideas. super fortunate for the trip to land exactly on Halloween 🎃 which gave us some cool b-roll. Goes to show that even when you don't know what you're doing, a simple idea can be the catalyst for something great. (IMO) really hoping I can get back for a visit! Maybe shoot another DIY vid 🙌🏼
