Things are not what they often seem. What appears to be one thing, most often is another. I found that out first hand.

Jada Williamson has always been the good girl that played by all the rules. Strict instructions from her mother regarding decorum and sexual sensibilities, has created a repressed and dissatisfied wife and mother. Jada craves a sexual reawakening and add spark back into her life.

Her husband, Javon is a dedicated husband and father, putting the financial wellbeing of his family first and their protection, second. Over the years, he’s missed the signs of his wife’s unhappiness.

But when Jada starts to bud into a sexy vixen, he takes notice and loves it. But does he consider why. Jada has Odell to thank for her rejuvenated sensuality and a change in her strut. But Jada believes the affair will help her marriage not destroy it. Is she right?

Such a good storyline with a well laid out plot that weaves a story of discontent and soul-searching. Ms. Essex allows us to travel through the yearning and often times, conflictual mind of Jada. Delving into her history to quell the remarks questions: What is wrong with this fool and why is she jeopardizing her marriage?

Ms. Essex did well at developing her character’s personalities and actions that speak to their motivations. She creates real people with real feelings, needs, and flaws. We can sympathize with Jada and love Javon’s protective nature.

And her writing style is fluid and made this an easy read.

And let’s not forget, Ms. Essex explores some heavy topics such as, adultery, stereotypes of young black boys, parental conflict. A story filled with conflict and tension that keeps you seated and reading.

And the sex scenes were fire-burning pages and causing blushes. She spared no expense in entertaining our sexibilities (I just made that up 😘).

Book Review: Marcus: A Money, Power, and Sex Novella by Norian Love

Genre: African American Romance Thriller
Rating: 5/5

What would you do if you only had one year to live? What would be your priority? What would you give up? These are questions Sergeant Marcus Bernard Winters is face with. Diagnosed with a rare disease, he faces proverbial battle of wills with himself. Poor life choices that has led to negative consequences, leads him to take stock of his past and present and try to make sense of his short future. Determined to ride out his time with purpose, he turns to what he loves. But, as always, bad things seem to find him. As he attempts to live his last year with purpose, he also has to confront the trouble that always seems to find him.

Mr. Love has, once again, captivated us with this continuation of the Money, Power, and Sex series. He gives us the story we craved with lots of twists and turns.

Mr. Love has mastered writing about the subtleties, but poignant qualities of love: desire-lust-fear-obsession, and using it to build a storyline that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Introducing and unraveling charismatic characters with depth and breath who pull at your emotions. Marcus, is one of those characters, one you fall in love with because of his open but foolish heart. Giving us enough of them to understand the whys of actions.

Tackling issues such as love, lust, lies, and deceit, interwoven with self-reflection and self-determination, and the sex scenes are beautiful. Mr. Love has done it again.
Bring to life a written tale that could easily be a motion picture.

There’s no secret that I love Mr. Love’s work. This is just one more book added to the list.

As a young girl, Heather only knew instability. Being a reserved and quiet child, she lived through her books. As a teen, a bright period enters her life for a short period and she feels more than loneliness. Unfortunately, it’s short lived. Her life is flipped on its axis and a set of events chart the course of a “dark” and “self-destructive” path for her.

Years of struggling and eventually finding her footing leads Heather to a comfortable place in her older years. Still quiet and reserved, but for different reasons, she’s carved out a good life for herself. Until Ringo appears in her life and set new events in motion which she must deal with in order to determine how she wishes to live her future.

Ms. Stewart has written a heartfelt “life story” that spoke to every emotion. A masterful storyline-providing us a front row seat as she unfolds a series of events in Heather’s life across decades.

A creative plot sequence that reveals Heather’s life choices and motivations, which is influential in the story’s conflict and tension, keeps us riveted and engaged. She crafted a story that naturally flowed.

I loved her writing style-it was descriptive, easily creating a picture of Heather and her world. Her use of expressive emotions and historical reflection, helps us understand the motivations and actions of the characters.

And the artful way in which is develops her characters is beautiful. Before our eyes we see them grow and mature and become who they were meant to be. It was an emotional journey for me.

It was a beautifully woven story of loneliness, pain, struggle, self-awareness, peace, and joy. There were points in which I felt empathy and sadness, and other times I felt hope and joy. I loved this book.

Book Review: Intoxicated by a Millionaire’s Love by Randy Coxton

Genre: African American Romance
Rating: 4/5

It’s a double edged sword when the man you find yourself competing against, who works every nerve in your body, is also the man that you secretly crave and love with every cell in your body.

Cashmere Jones, protege’ to Gates Alexander, Hedge Fund Manager and millionaire, has been vying for a position in his company but Gates refuses to entertain her. Anger fuels Cashmere to compete against him for some of his clients, waging war against the womanizer.

Gates is fascinated with and attracted to Cashmere but also frustrated with her antics and decides to teach her a valuable lesson.

Both with scarred histories and secret feelings for each other, go head to head until there’s only one of them standing.

Mr. Coxton has delivered an enticing rom-com that has humor in spades with a generous splash of the love/hate dynamic that makes this book such a good read. Great storyline with an exciting plot that takes us through this rival tête-à-tête.

With flawed but charismatic characters, the couple’s dynamic interactions are heated and humorous. Mr. Coxton’s use of humorous dialogue is such an important part of the story because it shows the silliness that the two engage in to spite each other when all they need to do is confess their feelings.

I enjoyed how Mr. Coxton gives us strong characters with good energy. He’s created smart, intelligent, funny, and ambitious people and it was good to see that. But he’s so good at showing us that smart people can be dumb in love.

A good love story with good tension and conflict that keeps us entertained.

The only issue is that Mr. Coxton needs a new editor. blackbookstagram
