Yes, I plan when I create video content around when my hair will be the most likely to behave. It might seem silly and superficial to some, but for me, if I'm having a good hair day, I feel more confident which translates into my videos.

Find the thing that makes you feel more confident when creating content (video or otherwise) and leverage it!

What is that thing for you?
You do not have to be a starving artist for Jesus! It is okay to want to make a living from your novels.
Your novel doesn't just simply "entertain" (though it will do that) it gives your reader an experience they share with other readers of your novel.

You are building community around story. Don't dismiss the power that carries.

Unexpected interruptions are the worse.

They mess with your creative flow! But you can only do so much to anticipate and avoid them so you need to be ready to recover when one catches you off guard.

Here's my go-tos for resetting after getting interrupted:

1. Take a deep breath and relax the muscles in my face and hands.

2. Put on one of my pre-writing hype songs.

3. Stand up, stretch, and refill my beverage.

The struggle is reel (pun intended 😆)

But, if you want to sell copies of your novel once it releases, you need an audience ready to buy it.

Building and Writing have to happen simultaneously.

Here are two tips for balancing that work:

1) Think about "building your platform" as priming the pump. You're getting your audience ready for your offer, getting them excited for what's to come. So, invite them into your excitement!

2) Evaluate your time to work. If the time slot is more than an hour, use that time to make progress on your novel. If it is less than an hour, use that to create content for a blog, podcast, social media, etc.

There's a reason why writers identify with Faulkner's phrase "kill all your darlings," editing is a rough process!I'm not talking about catching typos and spelling mistakes. 🙄 I'm talking about being ruthless as you ask yourself, "is this necessary? Does it move the story along? Does it help my reader experience what the characters are experiencing?"If the answer is no, those sentences have to go!Be ruthless. Be brave.You've got this!

When you have a scene that won't leave you alone, go write it down. Don't try to ignore it. Get it out of your head!Most likely it won't become anything more than simply a scene but it's taking your focus away from the full story that actually needs to be told.Plus, writing it down gives you practice capturing scenes in detail!So write it down.
