Some things to know about being an independent artist:
1. Endurance. A big part of why I’ve spent 10 years as an artist is not because things have always gone well for me. Actually there have been some really tough times - its just that I kept going and took the risk (no shade to anyone who does this part time, I probably should have a few times too).
2. Trust your true north. Also its okay for that to evolve over time just don’t let some git dilute it into mediocrity - also if what happens to be the trend right now is truly what you love then go for it!
3. This job can be SO lonely. So go out and go to gigs, open mics, meet some good people who understand this world and support each other.
