The whola massif and Dartry Mountains themselves are packed with history and discoveries. One particular, worth mentioning is Bear's Cave, 200m over the ground level, in one of limestone walls, beside Glenade Lake. The ruins of the Crohy soapstone mining works date back to 1893 when they were built by the North of Ireland Mineral Company. Before it, first recorded workings happened as far as 1861. Yesterday’s stroll at Tullan Strand, was a challenging but rewarding experience. This beach is not one of those you think about like family friendly ones. It’s a proper surfer’s dream when its waves and roughness shows. Soft sand, and massive water onsets, and retreats are far from safe, for both seasoned swimmers and non-swimmers. This place teaches you to be humble and respectful, and if you do… well, the experience and display of elements of nature, are beyond most of the things you see anywhere. Yesterday, as we arrived for a stroll, couple of returning walkers were still on the strand, but they were scarce, due to high winds, and lashing rain. Yellow warning was set by MET for our county amongst most of the West Coast counties. Regardless, as a lone family, and only human beings on the beach, we welcomed elements, and togetherness with nature.
