Lots of people talk about how they “find themselves” when they travel. I was fully prepared to find myself.
I figured I’d probably find myself doing things like waking up at dawn, doing yoga on the beach, drinking acai juice and probably meditating for a while, then maybe journalling or possibly thoughtfully reading, and then going on a casual 10-mile afternoon hike or maybe some light skydiving, and then turning in at a reasonable hour.
Instead, I found the exact same person that I’ve always been: clumsy, disaster-prone, very slow at hiking, terrified of most adventure sports, prone to late-night Netflix binges, and totally in love with the world despite literally always being lost in it.
That’s not a metaphor: I could get lost in my own house. I have no idea how to read a map.
Reality didn’t hit me all at once, though. It took a year of reality slapping me on the face and yelling WAKE UP!! HOW ARE YOU STILL ASLEEP!? IT’S NOON. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?! but after a while, I finally accepted that I am exactly who I’ve always been.
And I’ve made my peace with it – and with all of my many, many, many, many flaws.
What has traveling taught you? Was it what you expected?

Tips for visiting the San Diego Zoo [SAVE THIS POST!]
The @sandiegozoo has been around since 1916 and is world-famous for its conservation efforts, scientific research, and endangered species programs. 🐼
Although many zoos and animal attractions are less than ethical, the non-profit San Diego zoo prioritizes animals, conservation and research. 🐅
Species of animals live together in protected settings close to their natural habitatsThrough the San Diego Zoo’s work, 44 species have been released back into the wild. 🌴
If you plan on visiting the zoo anytime soon, here are some tips to get things off on the right foot:
💡Plan your route
Map out a route with your must-see animals before your visit. Because of the sprawling animal habitats, the zoo itself is huge, covering about 100 acres, with over 4,000 animals and 600 different species.
💡Buy tickets in advance
The San Diego zoo is popular, so pick up a skip the line ticket in advance to avoid wasting any time queuing and be sure to get there at opening! If you opt for a Go San Diego pass, zoo entry is included.
💡Ride the aerial tram
Save time with Skyfari Aerial Tram, a gondola ride connecting the back of the zoo to the entrance that also provides a birds-eye views of the animal exhibits. The park is also friendly for guests in wheelchairs with many elevators and escalators around the park.
💡Be prepared to walk
The zoo is large and has plenty of hills so make sure to wear comfortable shoes, and pack water and sunscreen.

Copenhagen is a holiday dream come true! ❄️
There are the canals of Nyhavn dotted with colorful tall, thin houses, adorned with wreaths and pine boughs. A Christmas Market around every corner, wafting the tantalizing smells of gløgg and sizzling bratwurst and fluffy aebleskiver.
If you’re in Copenhagen for the holidays, this is what you can’t miss:
🎄Head to the Christmas Markets. As you browse the stalls of adorable Christmas gifts and crafts, be sure to pick up a steaming mug of Gløgg: sweet mulled Danish wine with raisins and almonds.
🏰Take a day trip to explore fairytale castles like Frederiksborg. Denmark was once a thriving monarchy with loads of enormous castles, one of which was even immortalized in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
🎢 Explore an amusement park. Tivoli Gardens is one of Copenhagen’s claims to fame, and it’s a Winterland fairytale in November and December.
⛵️Take a canal cruise in Nyhavn. If you’ve ever looked at pictures of Copenhagen, you’ve seen Nyhavn. The colorful port is the most recognizable icon of Copenhagen!

Have you been to Brugge during the holiday season? This city is romantic AF. ✨❤️
Here are our top picks for a couple’s trip:
🎄Visit the Brugge Christmas Market. If you’re feeling romantic, you and your travel partner can share a giant Sauccissor, lady-and-the-tramp style – not because it’s enormous and budget-friendly to do so, but because it’s romantic.
🐎Take a carriage ride around Markt Square to see its stepped gable roofs, stunning Town Hall, and towering Belfry.
🍫Indulge at The Old Chocolate House. Belgian Hot Chocolate is on another level, and that level is on the same level as heaven. And Beyonce.
🦢Explore Minnewater Park. There’s pretty much nothing more romantic than strolling hand in hand over something called the Lake of Love on the Lover’s Bridge. Also there’s like, a thousand swans.

Vienna, Austria is absolutely magical at Christmastime – and that’s not just the Weihnachtspunsch talking. This city is full of Christmas Markets, palaces, classical music, coffee, cake, and lots of Hapsburg history.
If you’re visiting at Christmas, don’t miss the Vienna essentials below. (And get plenty more deets at the link in bio: @practicalwanderlust!)
Old Vienna Walking Tour: The best way to get to know Vienna is on foot! Bundle up and hit the streets. (We love the tour from @viennaunwrapped.)
Best View: One of the best spots to get an incredible photo of Vienna is to climb to the top of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. It’s only 343 steps. Easy, right?
Try Heiße Schokolade Wiener Art: Austrian style hot chocolate is THE hot chocolate. It has egg yolk mixed in which makes it super good and creamy, plus it's topped with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkled with cinnamon… oh, and a shot of rum. Yes, please.
Visit the Christmas Markets: Vienna has a TON of Christmas Markets, each with its own personality and vibe! This is the Rauthausplatz, the largest Christmas Market in Vienna.
Stay at @25hourshotel_vienna : We loved this quirky, weird, off-beat hotel with a bomb breakfast buffet – our favorite kind of hotel, in a nutshell.
So are you in? Vienna for Christmas? We’ll see you there.
