Brushing up on your interior design styles? Here are some popular (and new) terms:

Neo-Industrial:

This style draws inspiration from industrial spaces such as factories and warehouses, incorporating materials like exposed brick, metal, and concrete. The overall look is sleek and edgy, with a focus on simplicity and functionality.

Modern Maximalism:

This style is all about bold patterns, bright colours, and mixing different design elements. The key is to create a harmonious look by combining seemingly disparate pieces in a deliberate and intentional way.

Farmhouse:

This style is characterised by rustic and vintage elements, like distressed wood and antique furniture. It's a cozy and comfortable style, often featuring muted colours and natural textures like linen and burlap.

Eclectic:

This style is all about combining different design elements to create a unique and personalised look. It's a great style for those who like to mix and match different patterns and textures, and who want to create a space that reflects their personality.

Art Deco:

This trend emerged in the 1920s and 1930s and is characterised by its bold geometric shapes, metallic accents, and luxurious materials like velvet and marble. It's a glamorous and sophisticated style that's perfect for those who want to make a statement.

Grand Millennial:

This style is a modern take on traditional design, incorporating classic elements like chintz fabrics, floral patterns, and ornate accessories. It's a cozy and nostalgic style that's perfect for those who want to create a space that feels welcoming and warm.

At Paint the Town Green, we understand the importance of selecting the right shade of white paint to create a timeless, classic look. That’s why we’ve put together a list of our top 5 favourite white paints that we recommend.

▪️’Loft White’ by @Littlegreenepaintcompany

Little Greene’s Loft White is an excellent alternative to the classic decorator’s pure white. This shade is less brilliant, making it easier on the eye and less likely to fight for attention when paired with other colours.

▪️’Spanish White’ by @EdwardBulmerPaint

This is a beautiful shade that has a subtle yellow undertone that white naturally acquires overtime under the sun. This warmth makes it an excellent choice for North-facing rooms, as it can bring a bit of light and warmth to the space.

▪️’Flat Light’ by @PaintandPaperLibrary

Paint and Paper Library’s Monochrome collection consists of six pairs of black and white paints formulated to be used together, resulting in a guaranteed harmonious effect with the same undertone. One of the whites in this collection is Flat Light, which has a blue undertone, making it slightly cooler than other whites.

▪️’LowSalt’ by @COATPaints

Coat has made the process of selecting paint colours easy with their range of options. One of the whites in their collection is Low Salt, which is an off-white with a slight grey undertone. This shade is ideal for those who prefer a more subtle colour palette, with a hint of grey adding depth and dimension to the space.

▪️’Glacier’ by @Graphenstone

For areas of the house where natural light does not reach, Graphenstone’s Reflecting White is an excellent choice. This paint has unique reflecting qualities, making it ideal for areas with minimal light. Its richness in minerals also gives it a different level of depth when compared to other flat whites, making it stand out in any space.

Do you have any suggestions to add to the list?

If you’re cost conscious or simply looking for easy ways to elevate your kitchen without a major renovation, enjoy some of our tips:

▪️Repaint your cabinets:

Last year, we worked with @our_wandsworth_home to refresh her kitchen, repainting the cabinets in ‘Safe Play’ by @coatpaints. Make sure to give your units a good rub down with sandpaper before starting to paint. And if you can, find out what type of paint was used previously. If it was a water-based product then you’ll be fine to paint over it with another water-based paint.

▪️Install new or extra lighting

Ambient lighting can have a massive impact on your kitchen’s appearance and mood whilst ‘task lights’ such as spotlights over an island or countertop are genuinely functional.

▪️Accesorise

Accessories can brighten your kitchen and highlight a colour scheme. Consider vases or functional items such as copper pots and pans.

▪️Switch out your hardware

Handles and knobs are easy to switch with nothing more than a screwdriver and can quickly elevate the appearance of your kitchen. You can also make do with your existing hardware by spray painting them.

▪️Invest in new appliances

It’s no secret, @Smeg_UK make stunning, colourful appliances. Consider switching up your toaster, kettle or coffee machine to bring a new lease of life to your kitchen.
