A MILLION DOLLAR STICKER MACHINE

I can't believe the responses I got to my setup, so why don't we go over what else is out there🥰

Small version of my setup: Graphtec CE7000-40 (1.4k) + Epson Surecolor P700($829)= $2.2k

Automatic Sheets: Graphtec CE7000-ASC (5k) + Epson Surecolor P700($829)= $6k

Roland BN-20 Eco solvent and combo printer cutter. These combo machines make things much slower = $5.5k

Larger version of my setup: Graphtec CE7000-130(5k) + Epson Surecolor P9000 (5k) + Kala Mistral (13k) = $23k

Roland Eco Solvents: $20-25k

Digital Label Finishers: $15-30k but small width only. Might not have full die cutting

Canon Colorado UV Gel. No laminate needed! $100k

Laser Digital Label Finishers: 20k-1Mil
Digilase 4.0

The question everybody wants to know... What equipment do you use?!
I outgrew my cricut quickly but I loved making them, so I figured out how to do it better. Making this jump has to match your growth though. If you're babysitting your cricut all day everyday, or you've had to outsource because it takes wayyy too long, this could be a solution! But I make enough $ to cover these costs in a single month. You can too if you keep working at it!

My printer is the Epson Surecolor P-7000 commercial edition: $2.5-3k
This one didn't take me too long to learn. Once it's pretty easy. Biggest change is using roll paper rather than sheets. It can take sheets no smaller than letter paper but the margins it needs are too big to be worth that.

The cutter is the Graphtec CE-7000-60
Drove me MAD when I first got it. It's always throwing me for a loop and took me forever to get the hang of using it. The manual and YouTube are your bff's. Once I learned the barcode function it CHANGED MY LIFE. not for the faint of heart but I'd take it over a cricut any day.

I don't have much to say about the laminator. I learned the hard way not to use thermal laminate even though its so much cheaper.

For the most part, I don't mind sharing any info because you have to be determined to make this kind of investment. Me not telling my equipment won't stop someone who's determined to figure it out (it didn't stop me!) And I don't try to hide what I use in my videos. I might as well get some views and follows out if it🤷🏼‍♀️

Pt 5 update! Issues issues issues issues....

I really wanted to show off a working model of the sticker Vending machine, and it works... Kinda 🙃 I have learned that there are two direction of springs (and no the direction doesn't change when you flip it around😅). I have right hand wound and I need left hand wound. Seems like the exact coils may have to be custom made ugh. Some people have asked and as of right now, about 20 stickers fit on every level. I may need to space the springs a little more so that enamel pins can be put in the machine as well. I may have different coils made when sold so the artist gets to choose sticker or enamel springs.

The door is in the front because we decided it was too much liability to have it in the back. Store owners would have to constantly move the machine to restock and God forbid they would drop it and damage the machine or sue me💀. We also don’t want anything to prevent the machine from always being stocked! What's worse than an empty vending machine after all?

All in all it may take a while longer for it to be ready to sell, but I'm not giving up! Damn if I have to translate instructions to Mandarin and Spanish. I will prevail. I may get a sample made in china after my finals to see how they would make everything. There are so many functions I cannot figure out how they do. At that point I'd take the sample to a local fabricator and see if they can do it. Then I'd decide who to manufacture with based on ability, quality, and price.

So that's my update. Idk when I will have another tbh.

Replying to @yellowsail Part 4 bc a lot of people have been asking what the differences are between a classic sticker Vending Machine and my capstone design (or just outright calling me stupid because it already exist like damn y'all need to go hug your mother)

1. Payment mechanism. The classic machine requires you to use a lot of push force to get quarters in and stickers out. If they're not well maintained, it can get stuck and take a lot of muscle to move. My design uses one that you'd find in an old snack machine, a sanitary pad machine, and a gumball machine. It turns the coils and pushes product to the side.

2. My machine uses tokens instead of quarters! (Guaranteed I believe you could get the classic design fitted to use tokens but I still did not like the mechanism) I had a professor tell me to just sell 25¢ stickers... Artists can still be paying 33¢ for a sticker even when buying them in bulk of A THOUSAND.
3. Portability. A classic machine is around 50LBS. An artist's can't lug that to an art convention. And imagine how much a 4ft 50lb machine would cost to SHIP. Now I really don't know what mine is going to weight. My guess is 30lbs and my goal is to keep it under that as much as possible. I want to balance lightweight with durable.

4. Aesthetics. Everyone's got a different opinion. So I asked myself, who is the target demographic? On one side it's my retailers. They are running fun, colorful maximalist stores with very limited space. The other side is artists who are each different but I think to cover a wide variety would be something that is fun, colorful, and friendly!

I'll have an official update next week after my committee meeting on Friday, so stay tuned!
