Who am I?
My name is Gaynell Brady. I’m a New Orleans, LA native and resident. My family has lived in Louisiana since the 1700s. I spent most of my professional career working in the museum industry. I worked as a museum educator at River Road African American Museum, Louisiana State Museum, and National World War II Museum. I also spent several years a park ranger at New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve. In 2020, I became a Certified Interpretive Guide with the National Association of Interpretation.
On average, I work approximately 14-16 hours per day, 6 days a week except Sunday. Sundays have been family Sundays for many generations. A tradition that was started long before I was born. For this reason, I always dedicate this time solely to spending time with my family.
I am passionate about sharing Louisiana’s African American history and genealogy with people of all ages. I am dedicated to preserving African American burial grounds.
I was called to start Our Mammy’s in 2013. My number one goal is to honor my #ancestors and to share their stories in all that I do. Our Mammy’s is the perfect combination of history and genealogy. I use research and my family stories to teach history and make it more personal. I include one or more of my ancestor’s stories in every presentation and I will never forget all that they have ##sacrificed .
#history plus #genealogy equals #ourmammys

Happy birthday to us!! 🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊 On this day 10 years ago, Our Mammy’s was founded in New Orleans, Louisiana. This company was created to plant seeds all over the country. It has always been our goal to honor our ancestors in all that we do. We hope to continue to inspire and empower the next generation of genealogists and family historians.
We kicked off our birthday celebration in St Francisville and we are celebrating all year long.
Our Mammy’s shares the stories of Louisiana’s African Americans through the lens of the founder’s ancestors—what they contributed, how they survived, why it’s important—so that future generations can understand what was sacrificed and be inspired by all the ancestors have accomplished in the face of adversity.
