LOOK AT THIS! We’re celebrating International Red Panda Day a little early, but we think its well worth it to introduce you to Kiran!
Kiran, pronounced kee-ruhn, is the name of the newest addition to our red oanda family! Khyana, Kiran’s mom, is named for the Nepalese word for “light” so our carnivore care team thought it fitting to name Khyana’s first offspring Kiran which is Nepalese for “ray of light!” This little one was born on July 20 and continues to spend time behind the scenes with mom. Kiran weighs just over 1 pound and has been exploring his space more and more, making sure to stay close to mom of course. Kiran is starting to get more of the red coloring and the patterns on his face and tail are starting to show! Join us is saying hello to Kiran and welcoming him fo the world 😍 #okczoo #wildlife #redpanda

Here at the OKC Zoo, we flaminGO the extra mile for our feathered friends!
Some of our fans may remember a very soecial flamingo named Merry. In 2019, Merry was taken to the Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital after caretakers saw that she wasn’t using her rught leg. She received regular therapeutic laser treatments to accelerate the healing process while under observation. A few months later, Merry received an innovative brace made of waterproof swimmers tape and wetsuit naterial to help stabalize her leg joints! Merry continues to wear her brace and is an amazing ambassador fir her species. Her and our flamingo flock will be moving into their reimagined habitat in ExpeditionAfrica opening soon! #okczoo #wildlife #flamingo #conservation

We’re bursting with excitement to announce the arrival of a healthy male red panda cub! This little guy was born on Thursday, July 20 to first-time mom Khyana and dad Benjamin. At birth, the cub weighed only 131 grams or 1/4 of a pound. Khyana and her cub will remain behind the scenes and spend time bonding! Stay tuned for more updates on the newest member of our OKC Zoo family! #okczoo #wildlife #redpanda #redpandacub #conservation #endangeredspecies
You should definitely look at this!
Our bird team is excited to welcome Bobwhite quail chicks! The northern bobwhite quail is a near threatened species found throughout the southern U.S. Being able to successfully hatch these chicks is an important step in animal conservation! #okczoo #wildlife #conservation

We’ve got an elephant sized bro-mance forming!
Our two youngest bull elephants, Bowie (9) and Kandula (21) have recently been spending time getting to know one another. Through this intro process, caretakers have seen many positive social behaviors. The two boys are spending lots of time eating, dusting and swimming but most of all they love sparring!
In Asia, bull elephants will spend time either independently, with female herds or in small bachelor groups. Here at the Zoo its no different - Bowie and Kandula enjoy spending time with each other, independently or with the female herd! #okczoo #asianelephants #conservation

We’ve got another exciting update on our 7-month-old chimp Kiazi and our guests reactions say it all!
We are ecstatic to share that chimps Kito, Nia and Kiazi have ventured outside to check out the habitat as a small troop. As we continue to do introductions with the rest of our chimpanzee troop, baby Kiazi, Kito and Nia will spend more time outside, weather permitting, so guests may be able to see the group foraging, playing and napping outside!
We are excited fo watch Kiazi become a rooted member of not only our chimpanzee troop but our OKC Zoo family! #okczoo #babychimp #wildlife #conservation
