On July 29, 2023, O’Shae Sibley was murdered for Voguing at a gas station.
O’Shae Sibley was a member of the Royal House of LaBeija from 2019-2020. O’shae was an accomplished and passionate dancer. His community remembers him as kind, thoughtful, and creative. His preferred mode of communication was through movement. He had a love for artistic expression through Vogue.
Vogue is an dance created by Black queer and trans people in the Ballroom Scene in the 1980s. Though it has since evolved into a mainstream phenomenon, the roots of Vogue lie in radical expression. Black queer people coped with and resisted societal discrimination with the empowered and unapologetically queer movements of Vogue.
This tribute, shot in the summer of 2020, features O’Shae in his element. This is how we will remember him, in all his glory.
We’re going off in the name of O’Shae. Rest in power.
