This is the exact bedroom where our Blanche Burton met her demise. Her gas lamp fell onto her setting her ablaze - in this little bedroom, in her home on 28th & Colorado Ave. Same story as the rest, was it an accident or was it the man fleeing from the scene? This was one small pin drop among the thousands of awful treatment cases these Red Light District women endured. No family? No husband? No home? No money? 12 cents a day toiling at washing clothes for miners - or $250 to $400 a night in a house of ill-fame? Smart business women conducting work just as a smart business man does? Getting ridiculed for their profession by the same men who keep them in business? Not all of these women ended in poverty and sadness.
