This was originally written by James Miller, who writes wonderful micro fiction under the name “A Small Fiction.”
For me, this comic touches on two ideas: the first is the Fermi Paradox, which refers the contradiction between the high probably of life in the universe and the lack of evidence that those other civilizations exist, which begs the question: “Where are they?” Give it a Google. It’s fascinating.
The other idea, which has always served as the emotional core of this comic, is the notion that loneliness is universal. It’s something we all feel and all experience, even though it seems we’re isolated in the tiny universes of our lives.
