Wildfires sweeping across western Canada have driven thousands of people from their homes and poured smoke across the continent. Air quality alerts have been posted in states as far west as Washington and as far east as Wisconsin.

North Carolina's Republican-dominated legislature voted to overturn a gubernatorial veto of a bill that limits abortion to 12 weeks in most cases. The bill was passed by the Republican-majority legislature on Tuesday last week, and vetoed by Democratic Governor Roy Cooper on Saturday.
“North Carolinians now understand that Republicans are unified in their assault on women’s reproductive freedom and we are energized to fight back on this and other critical issues facing our state,” Cooper said. “I will continue doing everything I can to protect abortion access in North Carolina because women’s lives depend on it.” #NPR #northcarolina #abortion
