Making a career change can be intimidating, especially if you've invested a lot of time and effort into your current job.
There’s this timeline that we've been conditioned to believe that we should follow. Especially if you're looking to make a significant career change.
We as a community of first and second generation immigrants have so many inner resources in us. We have a ton of get sh*t done energy.
To my fellow 1st and 2nd gen folks: If you’re needing help, it doesn’t mean that there's anything wrong or lacking about you.
Sometimes we judge ourselves for asking for help. We make it mean that we are incapable or not enough in some way. But, is this really true?
Culturally Aware Coaching

💡TIP: If you’re looking for support from a coach or therapist, don’t be afraid to ask if they’ve worked with your community in the past or how they consider your culture.

You see, even well-intended advice can be harmful for our community, when that advice…
👎🏽 doesn’t consider the racism and discrimination we face
👎🏽 the cultural beliefs that we’re taught at home
👎🏽 the code-switching dance that we are taught to do in order to belong

It becomes harmful because when we try to take that advice and it doesn’t work, we don’t blame the advice…we blame ourselves.

We shame ourselves for not being able to get that promotion instead of understanding that we have more obstacles to jump through than others.

That used to be my story.
