This Sophia print is called Cave. It was about the 8th one I drew in the series of 59. It was while I was drawing this one that I realized I was drawing my own journey... and that this woman was my inner self... my anima... setting herself free from the oppression of the religion of men, liberating herself to live her own life authentically and boldly. Because the cave represents facing our deepest, most fundamental being with courage, and to come out transformed into our most glorious selves.

Naked and Broken Whether or not you believe in a literal creation, God, or Satan, I think the creation story has some important ideas to teach us. One is that there are forces that would like us to feel shame. Adam and Eve did something they shouldn't have. Then they realized they were naked. Then they felt shame. "Who told you that you were naked?" indicates there was nothing wrong with their nakedness. It's just how they were. It was fine. They were okay. It wasn't a bad thing. Until it was called a bad thing and then had to be covered... hidden. Trauma is normal. But this doesn't mean we're broken. It means we've allowed it to make us think we are separated from our wholeness. As Gabor Maté says, "Healing is wholeness." Which means we are healed when we recognize and get back in touch with our primal wholeness. And as Sinéad said about her therapist, who said, "You come to therapy to find out there's nothing wrong with you." Please don't quickly dismiss these thoughts. I know for many of us who've grown up in the Church, this sounds wrong and even offensive. Demonic. Satanic. But this is what happens when an embedded and cherished idea (a belief) is questioned: we immediately resist! When it is, in my opinion, this evil so-called "satanic" force that would convince us we are broken and therefore need to be ashamed and live accordingly. You're naked? So what? You feel separated from your wholeness? Realize this is an illusion and be healed!

Whether or not you believe in a literal creation, God, or Satan, I think the creation story has some important ideas to teach us.

One of the worst aspects of Purity Culture is that it can kill passion, spontaneity, romance, flirting, the art of seduction, and more!

This woman wants connection and intimacy. She wants to be be desired and pursued. Courted and wooed. She wants their relationship to be sensual and sexy.

Instead, it's a boring and predictable business contract.

I don't think she'll last long in this relationship.

Being Lead Into Temptation

Another instalment in my sexy Sunday series to critique Purity Culture.

This was me. That's Lisa.

Even though I was crazy about girls and thought about sex a lot, I was completely naïve. Very!

When Lisa and I started dating, she introduced me to the idea that maybe I was too religious... that I had let my religiosity kill my humanity. She wasn't raised in a purity culture home or church, so she was free from it.

I remind you we never went all the way until we were married... like good Christians (wink wink nod nod).

But we had fun on our way there.

Purity Culture died a sudden death in my mind early on in our relationship. I'm thankful for that.

No lingering shame or doubt like I know so many people have to deal with.

Because I learned that we, with all our sexuality and sensuality, are not necessarily being tempted. We're just being human! And that's okay.
