❓Anyone else with a talented kid who has decided against traditional lessons?
I posted this on TikTok a year or so ago and most of the advice was to put him in lessons. I ended up deciding against it because he didn’t want to. He loves music, but as a way to blow off steam. I’m letting him lead the way on this. 💗 Music is his therapy.
Cost-effective ways we’ve encouraged his love of music:
Used an app (we love Simply Piano)
- Borrowed an electric bass (before buying one of our own)
- Encouraged (okay bribed) him to perform in front of people since he won’t be doing recitals.
- Built his music knowledge/library with playlists and trips to the library CD area
- Found some other kids with similar interest in music to jam with
- Sent him to a @schoolofrock summer camp, rather than monthly lessons (which are not a time/financial priority right now)
