Wanna know the biggest reason why I love this song? Of course I dig the melody and the lyric and the turn of the hook…but what I really really love about this song, is it defied the odds. I put it out with very little promotion, ZERO marketing dollars, and no machine behind it. It never got any playlists or political support from the industry. Despite all that, it found its way into y’all’s hearts and now, almost 15 million streams later, it’s one of my most streamed songs day in and day out. It wasn’t supposed to be able to do that, but it did.
