Being a PA can be physically and mentally demanding especially at the end of a 12 hour shift. Making time in your busy schedule to take care of yourself is so important not only so that you don’t lose your cool with patients, but also so that you can genuinely feel your best!
Being active and having a routine that benefits you is something I will always preach to anyone, including current and future PA’s.

Being a Physician Assistant is such an amazing career and I love being able to help others. But I also love being able to take care of myself.
Taking care of myself helps prevent burnout especially in such an emotionally and physically taxing job, is important and necessary in my opinion.
Some examples of ways I take care of myself include walking on the beach to clear my head, spending time with my family, and working out. Fitness and staying active has become such a big part of taking care of myself in my career which is why I now hold my own wellness bootcamps to help other PA’s, like you, find a way to take care of yourself and prevent burnout in YOUR career!

First, you need energy and alertness while can be achieved thru consuming a balanced diet full of proteins, carbohydrates and healthy fats.
Next, you need concentration and attention. This can come from omega 3 fatty acids and B vitamins (b12 and b6).
Lastly you need memory and focus when taking exams or working with patients. These can be achieved thru eating foods high in antioxidants which are found in fruits and vegetables.
While nutrition is essential for studying, there are many other aspects to ensure you are improving your overall academic performance including sleep, exercise, time management.
