📢Imagine there were vending machines for adults and no matter how hard we tried we couldn't earn any tokens!

📢📢This is happening in schools RIGHT NOW under the false pretenses that we are teaching literacy (except the exact opposite is happening), respect, kindness, good behavior and determination!

📢📢We aren't accomplishing any of these goals! The end result of these book vending machines are shame, guilt and embarrassment!

📢📢Of course, this is NEVER our intention! These systems use positive, empathetic and LOVING language to "trick" us into thinking they will work!
.
📢📢I promise you they don't! I have not EVER seen it work once for every kid, not even the majority of the kids! They will stay quiet, push down emotions and save the "meltdowns" until they get home (after school restraint collapse)!

📢📢Now that this issue has been ruffled, time to shuffle!

❤️❤️These auctions are awful for so many reasons! Some kids don't care. Some kids have increased anxiety. Some kids get too competitive. Some kids only do it for the prize. Some kids want the price so bad but can't figure out how to get the tickets so they can participate in the auction.
.
❤️❤️ Behavior management doesn't need to be a system, A program, or curriculum! Because when we are confined by these, we tend to forget that humans are involved!
.
❤️❤️ It all starts with self-reflection and asking ourselves, "Who is this child?" Then we build fair and talk about relationships, environments, differentiation of instruction and consequences.

❤️❤️The Buddy Bench was first designed to be a place where a child could sit if they were looking for a friend to play with. I LOVE this idea!

❤️❤️My thoughts: The Buddy Bench seems to, now, be a place where kids sit to be bullied. We were hoping that children would show empathy, love and compassion to others looking for friends, but it seems to have turned into a place that highlights loneliness and a lack of belonging!!

📢📢My solution: I strongly believe if adults played with children and were involved in play on the playground, we may not need a Buddy Bench!
.
📢📢And having constant, real and genuine conversations about differences and strengths! These are, at least, a start!!
