Against all odds, the Afghan girls’ football team is still playing the sport they love — and still winning. 🏆
In 2021, after the Taliban claimed power over Afghanistan, they banned girls and women from participating in sports. This forced the Afghanistan Youth Women’s National Football Team to escape.
With sheer bravery and sisterhood, the girls fled to Portugal and continue to play football under the team name “Ayenda,” meaning “freedom” in Dari. ⚽🤍 #afghanistan🇦🇫 #soccer #malalafund #girlsinsports

On her 16th birthday — soon after recovering from an attack that almost took her life — Malala stood on stage and asked the world to listen to the young women who are raising their voices for education and justice.
That was 10 years ago.
In the last decade, young women have continued to fight for our future, been on the frontlines of protests, disrupted decision making spaces and demanded accountability from leaders.
This month, we’re honouring 10 years of girls’ activism and the movements built and lead by young women around the world.
Here’s to always following young women’s lead, amplifying their calls to action and sharing their stories with the world. 💗 And find some of the activists in this video in the tags.

I want future generations, young women and all other marginalized groups to not have to worry about basic necessities and their human rights being violated in crisis situations, such as the floods in Pakistan last year.
Unless we do something now, there will be more devastation, more “thoughts and prayers”, more “how did it get so bad?” This is a global problem, which requires global solidarity and everyone can contribute in some way. If you are an artist, use your art to further this cause. If you are a teacher, a student, a lawyer, a journalist, or any field, use your platform to educate and advocate.
I believe if we can start holding our local leaders, governments, corporations, fossil fuel companies and the richest 1% accountable and challenge the status quo, we can make change.
There is still hope and it’s you and me.
