Learn to enjoy the present with LiveYinsa Collective 💚

This year, we are working with ‘The Pivot Year,’ a year-long book by @briannawiest. Last year, it was ‘A Course In Miracles.’ Each day, we read a short passage from the book, and every Sunday evening, we come together to discuss the passage that resonated with us during the week.

‘The Pivot Year’ contains daily passages, each of which is less than a page in length. Its primary aim is to guide us in navigating life’s challenges by emphasizing the importance of presence, adaptability, and mindfulness. As part of the LiveYinsa collective, we create an environment that helps us appreciate the beauty in our lives. Our workshops, classes, and activities serve as constant reminders of the positive aspects of life.

The LiveYinsa collective functions as a support system, like group therapy but not - we don’t ever pretend to take the place of talk therapy, and most of our members work with therapists and mentors of all types. We strive to become the best versions of ourselves and are committed to personal growth. This collective space provides a platform for sharing and addressing life’s difficulties, making it easier for us to stay present and engaged throughout the rest of the week.

Even if you can only join us on Zoom once a month or once a week on Sundays, this participation offers a dedicated space to work through challenges, allowing you to be more present and mindful in your daily life.

How do I manifest my dream life following these 7 steps? ✨

1. Determine Your Passion: To uncover your passion, I start by creating a list of experiences. Beginning with a meditation session, I transport myself to moments of profound joy, bliss, or elevated happiness.
2. Figure Out Your ‘Why’: Simon Sinek’s book, ‘Start with Why,’ is an excellent resource on this topic. I’ve also shared his TED talk in one of my workshops within the LiveYinsa collective. Exploring your ‘why’ can be a powerful motivator.
3. Visualize: Through guided visualization meditations, you can envision your ideal future and dream life. Picture yourself engaged in meaningful activities, surrounded by loved ones, dressed in your preferred attire, with a radiant expression. These visualization meditations are available on my Instagram Subscriptions and within the LiveYinsa collective.
4. Set Achievable Goals Or Intentions: When setting goals, it’s crucial to make them realistic. For instance, aspiring to become a homeowner requires a well-defined timeline. Rather than aiming to buy a house immediately, consider a goal of purchasing one within the next year. You can follow the SMART goals framework, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Alternatively, set intentions and offer them at your ancestral altar for added clarity.
5. Practice Gratitude: A gratitude journal, such as the ‘Five-Minute Journal,’ is a valuable tool for cultivating gratitude. Start your day by listing things you’re grateful for, and conclude it by reflecting on what could have improved your day.
6. Reassess What You Keep In Your Life: Every quarter, take a moment to asses how you spend your time. Eliminate what makes you unhappy and add more joyful experiences into your life.
7. Celebrate your wins: Celebrate your daily accomplishments! Consider maintaining a board where you jot down your daily wins, serving as a constant reminder of your progress. ©

One of the things I truly appreciate about New York City is the abundance of resources available. The city offers access to virtually anything I desire, at any time of the day or night.

If I crave green juice at 3 a.m., it's readily accessible. If I feel like having a massage at 2 a.m., it's within reach. The diverse culinary options allow me to enjoy dishes from around the world whenever I please. I can a wide range of exercise classes, as well as immerse myself in diverse cultural experiences, attend live performances, and explore museums. If I want to lay on the couch all day, I can watch any show and Uber eats from the best restaurants in the world.

As someone who constantly seeks variety, New York City offers an ideal environment. I find the city's vibrant energy refreshing. It's a place where I'm exceptionally productive, thanks to its fast-paced atmosphere. I thrive in this environment for limited periods.

I really do cherish the opportunities to connect with friends and engage with my community when I'm in New York. Teaching live yoga classes to students I've been working with for nearly a decade is a rewarding experience.

In essence, New York City encapsulates a multitude of cultural experiences, as a global amalgamation. It's a little slice of the Dominican Republic, a taste of Mexico, and a hint of Europe. The city offers a delightful blend of diverse experiences, which is what I truly love about it.

When it comes to the idea of falling behind in life, I firmly believe that we are exactly where we are meant to be. Our life’s journeys are guided by a higher power, and every choice we make, every place we go, and every interaction we have is part of a divine plan.

Sometimes, we may feel inadequate when our values differ from those of our family or others around us. For instance, I am often surrounded by people who prioritize home ownership and material possessions, while I value experiences, relationships, and personal growth. This can create a sense of inferiority or a disconnection from our lineage.

I've chosen to invest in experiences, such as traveling to other countries, building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, and learning from different mentors and teachers. I've focused on my education, cultural experiences, self-development, and personal growth, rather than accumulating material assets. It doesn't make me better or worse, just holding different values.

The key to not feeling behind is aligning our actions with our own values and desires, not someone else's. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others because each of us is unique, with our own values and goals. As long as our choices and actions align with our personal aspirations, it doesn't matter how they appear in comparison to others. They have their own goals and purposes.

I rarely find myself looking at others and thinking they have so much more than I do. What I have is a wealth of experiences and a fulfilling life. I would choose these over material possessions any day.

This LiveYinsa retreat presented some unique challenges that pushed me to my limits.

I took charge of organizing transportation to three different locations on the island, arranging all excursions, coordinating with various teachers, managing two separate venues, and overseeing all workshop logistics. This was a monumental task for a single person, but I tackled it solo without seeking assistance.

To add to the complexity, a week before the retreat, I faced a family emergency and received a weather warning about an impending hurricane during our stay in Las Terrenas, which was three hours away from the airport. Our planned activities were all off-site, involving mountain hikes.

The pre-June 16th planning and adjustments, the post-June 16th planning, and the first day of the retreat itself took a toll on my physical and mental well-being.

What made this experience truly remarkable was the flexibility and understanding of the retreat attendees. They never complained about the challenges we faced. Instead, they embraced the situation by dancing in the rain and sharing hearty meals.

This journey taught me the importance of remaining adaptable and going with the flow. Regardless of how meticulously I plan, unforeseen circumstances can arise, reminding me that sometimes, I need to simply breathe and trust that, even amidst uncertainty, things will work out as they should.

To all my retreat attendees, I would love for you to comment on one thing you learned from the retreat. Can’t wait to read what you all experienced! 💚

During my retreats, I prioritize offering yoga classes that cater to a diverse range of skill levels. This approach allows participants with advanced practices, yoga instructors, and newcomers to experience the same session together. My expertise lies in yoga therapy, allowing me to offer modifications for beginners and enable participants to challenge themselves, enhance balance, and cultivate improved posture. When I don’t have expertise in a practice, I make sure I bring on teachers who do so my students get a variety of experiences.

My holistic approach encompasses all eight facets of yoga, including meditation, workshops, and discussions about interpersonal engagement. A comprehensive yoga practice and lifestyle serve as integral components of our retreats, particularly when focused on healing. In this specific instance, the retreat's focus wasn't on healing but rather on fostering joy.

Activities embraced a variety of expressions, from dancing in the rain and poolside relaxation to shared laughter. These experiences embody the essence of yoga – extending beyond physical postures to encompass a broader understanding of all 8 limbs. For the first time, this retreat introduced aerial yoga, which engaged all participants in some playtime. Such willingness to explore encapsulates the spirit of my retreat attendees – individuals open to new experiences! Mauray was an experienced aerial teacher and she inspired my students to try this practice at home.

This sense of adventurousness is what truly resonates with the participants drawn to my retreats. Their eagerness to embrace the unfamiliar is a quality I cherish in these experiences 🌱

What are some things we can do in the morning to support our yoga practice?🧘‍♀️

✨Prepare Your Space: Start by laying the groundwork the night before. Unroll your mat, ensuring it's ready for your practice. Arrange all your essentials within easy reach of your sleeping area or designate a dedicated space for your practice. Cultivating a sacred area sets the tone for your day. Consider adorning it with a candle or the soothing aroma of incense.

✨Harness Your Mindfulness: Yoga is a meditative journey, often accompanied by insights and reflections. To embrace this aspect, have your journal ready to capture any thoughts that may arise during your practice. By writing them down, you engage in an active dialogue with your mind, fostering a deeper connection to your practice.

✨Set the Ideal Environment: Temperature plays a crucial role in the quality of your practice. Anticipate your needs – have a cozy sweater on hand for moments of chilliness during your session. Alternatively, if you prefer a cooler ambiance, ensure the air conditioner is adjusted to your liking. Prioritize hydration by sipping on warm lemon-infused water or herbal tea before embarking on your practice. This mindful ritual can align your body and mind for the session ahead.

✨Create an Undisturbed Sanctuary: Designating your yoga time as sacred ensures an undisturbed experience. Whether you're indulging in a brief morning stretch upon waking or dedicating time to your practice, carve out this space for yourself. Rising before the rest of the household guarantees tranquility and fosters an environment where you can fully immerse yourself in the practice.

By thoughtfully preparing your space, cultivating mindfulness, optimizing your environment, and safeguarding your practice time, you lay the foundation for a transformative day ahead. Your journey begins the moment you step onto your mat, and these intentional steps empower you to make the most of it.

Why introspection is so important for self-growth?

Introspection is a cornerstone of personal growth, for it is through addressing our challenges that we forge a smoother path in life. When we lack discipline, the consequences ripple through our well-being. Health, exercise, nutrition, and emotional equilibrium all bear the weight of this absence.

Therapeutic guidance becomes essential on this journey, a tool to navigate the terrain of our experiences. A skilled therapist offers an objective opinion, untainted by personal perspectives. Objectivity provides clarity.

Intimate relationships, though well-intentioned, may inadvertently influence our perspective. Here, the impartiality of a therapist becomes invaluable, offering a mirror to our experiences.

The influence of external energies is undeniable. Crowded spaces and people filled with negativity can cast an unintentional shadow. Regular spiritual rituals, from cleansing baths to herbal practices, shield us from those influences.

Use discernment when you are deciding who to spend your time with. Energy vampires, or those who unwittingly drain our vitality, underscore the importance of preserving our emotional fortitude. Conscious awareness of the energies we surround ourselves with empowers us to craft a more peaceful existence.

While we may seek external solutions, the deepest wellspring of wisdom flows from our own inner sanctum. Remember that 💫

Central to the yogic philosophy are the Eight Limbs, a transformative path that facilitates a profound connection with the divine essence. These limbs are the stepping stones toward unity – not just with others, but with the divine presence itself.

1. Yama: Ethical Conduct.
The foundational Yama encompasses our interactions with both others and ourselves. Kindness, honesty, non-stealing, moderation, and generosity form its essence, illuminating our engagement with the world.

2. Niyama: Personal Observances.
Niyama turns the focus inward, embracing five personal practices. Through saucha (cleanliness), santosha (contentment), tapas (discipline), svadhyaya (self-study), and isvarapranidaha (surrender to a higher power), we cultivate a harmonious relationship with ourselves.

3. Asana: Physical Postures.
Asana unfolds as the practice of physical postures, forming a relationship between body and spirit.

4. Pranayama: Breath Control.
Pranayama delves into the art of breath control, unifying the life force that courses through our being.

5. Pratyahara: Sensory Withdrawal.
Pratyahara, often referred to as turning inward, lays the foundation for meditation, a gateway to deeper self-awareness.

6. Dharana: Concentration.
Dharana refines concentration, leading us to focus and discipline in our mental endeavors.

7. Dhyana: Meditation.
Dhyana encompasses meditation – a practice of profound contemplation that guides us toward inner stillness.

8. Samadhi: Blissful Union.
The pinnacle, Samadhi, epitomizes complete contentment and blissful harmony. In this state, extreme emotions fade, and we achieve unity with the divine. The journey through the other 7 limbs culminates in Samadhi – a state of pure bliss and unity, free from the shackles of cyclical existence.

It's important to note that this path is one of continuous growth. Like many, I too am navigating these transformative limbs, each step drawing me closer to my goals 🩵

What are the benefits of Yin Yoga? 🧘‍♀️

✨Increases Circulation and Improves Flexibility: The distinctive aspect of Yin Yoga lies in its focus on gradual, sustained stretches. Unlike conventional muscle stretches, Yin Yoga engages the fascia – a vast network of connective tissue similar to a flexible sheet enveloping the body. Deliberately unhurried stretches facilitate improved blood and lymph circulation. By cultivating a more spacious environment within the fascia, rapid and forceful motions that risk injury are replaced with a gentler approach, yielding enhanced flexibility.

✨Improves Joint Mobility: Through its emphasis on the fascial system, Yin Yoga fosters joint mobility. By unlocking the fascial restraints, joints find greater freedom of movement, complemented by fluidity. These fluid dynamics, similar to natural lubrication, ease joint function and boost overall joint health.

✨Balances The Internal Organs: Yin Yoga's profound influence extends to the aspect of internal organs. The expansion of the fascia provides the necessary room for organs to function optimally. With free space, vital processes like lung expansion for deep breathing, efficient heart rhythms, and unobstructed detoxification pathways within the liver and intestines unfold with efficacy.

✨Calms And Balances The Mind And Body: The heart of Yin Yoga resides in its serene and unrushed approach. Rooted in the Yin feminine energy, the practice leads to a calming balance between the mind and body. This pacing encourages diaphragmatic breathing, a technique that activates the nervous system via the vagus nerve. By anchoring breath in the belly during Yin Yoga, stress and anxiety are alleviated, and the practice becomes a sanctuary for mindfulness, fostering a profound mind-body equilibrium.

Human beings are naturally designed to be awake during daylight and rest during nighttime.

When individuals, whether they are my private clients or participants in my healing classes, encounter sleep difficulties, I offer a simple yet impactful piece of advice: strive to rise with the light of dawn. Sleeping beyond the early morning hours gradually accumulates Kapha dosha, leading to a sense of lethargy and inertia. This accumulation not only makes awakening progressively challenging but also contributes to a heavier disposition.

The repetitive act of hitting the snooze button exemplifies this effect. It is super important to align your activities with the setting sun so a harmonious balance can emerge. Although this can be demanding, especially in locations like New York, where daylight hours vary greatly with the seasons, maintaining such a rhythm is supreme.

This is where the Dominican Republic offers a distinct advantage, characterized by consistent daylight hours throughout the year. Embracing a natural routine becomes second nature, with sunrise and sunset times hovering between 6 and 7:30 pm. This stability has a profound impact on sleep patterns, enabling me to be super awake in the mornings and gradually wind down with the descending sun.

Contrastingly, the vibrant energy of New York presents a different scenario. The city's perpetual activity keeps me engaged well into the night, disrupting the innate rhythm of my body and leading to persistent fatigue. This serves as a testament to the essential role light and darkness play in influencing our well-being.

To counteract these urban challenges, incorporating morning sun salutations becomes a powerful practice. This ancient ritual not only energizes the body but also acts as a catalyst for a rejuvenated start to the day. ☀️©
