Studies show that less than 1% of housing nationwide are fully ADA accessible for wheelchair users. This alone creates huge barriers for disabled people, especially wheelchair users. These are some additional features that are necessary:
• No steps between rooms or rails/grab bars along all steps.
• An accessible bathroom with grab bars.
• A bathroom on the entry level or the presence of an elevator in the unit.
• A bedroom on the entry level or the presence of an elevator in the unit.
• Extra-wide doors or hallways.
• No steps between rooms.
• Door handles instead of door knobs.
• Sink handles or levers instead of knobs.
• Wheelchair-accessible electrical switches, electrical outlets, and climate controls.
• Wheelchair-accessible kitchen countertops, kitchen cabinets, and other kitchen features
Video Description: the first frame is of Samantha, a Latina wheelchair user, turning around and smiling. The text overlay reads "small gestures that mean a lot to me 🥹🫶🏼". It's then followed by pictures of one-story mid century modern homes with accessible stepless entries.

Why do we feel entitled to other people’s limited ability to walk and make them feel bad for it? Instead of being supportive that they’d have less pain, less fatigue, less injuries, etc if they just used a mobility aid? Walking isn’t the holy grail of mobility for everyone or for all situations. It’s best we mind our own business and recognize that mobility aids provide people with FREEDOM ♿️❤️🔥 #disabledtiktok #disabledtiktok #disabilityawareness #wheelchairlife

Come with Eliza on the London Eye as a wheelchair user!
Eliza: “It was wheelie fun hehe! But let’s talk about the accessibility I experienced:
✨Fast track line for shorter wait time
✨First on so could choose my spot
✨Accessible toilet available near the eye
✨Staff were knowledgeable on access
✨Ramp but down for me to access
✨Carer ticket available
If you are someone who doesn’t like heights I would say this isn’t the best thing for you! I did feel a little bit woozy at the top lol!
I haven’t been on the London eye for many years as I live in London I always just walk past and see a long line so have been avoiding but I was pretty impressed with how they dealt with it all.”
#Access : Video begins with Eliza a White fem wheelchair user with rainbow hair waving in front of the London Eye, there is text that reads ‘Come with me on the London Eye as a wheelchair user!’ We then see Eliza booking tickets online via their phone, Eliza then shows us how they get in line for the eye & the fact track line. We then see Eliza waiting to get on the eye & then the staff putting the ramp down, Eliza then gets on the eye and picks their spot. We then see Eliza enjoying the London eye!

Omeo🦽
“It’s incredible to think how technology has advanced since I became a wheelchair user over a decade ago. There isn’t enough of a market for many specific dance wheelchairs, however, I always keep an eye out for ones which launch which could be adaptable for both myself and my students. And when I saw this I was so excited!”
The stars aligned and we met at @the.disability.expo where I was able to trial the Omeo with @myadaptability 🦽 As a dancer I found it really quite easy to use and incredible to finally have my arms free! ✨

The Anti-Ableism Series Featuring @lachimusic
Stop making assumptions about disabilities
Video description/transcript: video starts on Tiffany and then pans left to Lachi, who at the end brings Tiffany back into the frame
Tiffany: Do you want to be a better ally to disabled people?
Lachi: Hey y’all, it’s Lachi. She/her. I’m a Black woman with cornrows. I’m a songwriter and a recording artist and an actress. And I think a way you can be a better ally to disabled people is to stop making assumptions about disabilities. It turns out that most blind people can see and most Deaf and Hard of Hearing people can hear. Only 15% of the blind population are actually totally blind. And I’m one of them, I’m partially sighted. but look at this, I still look good, girl, don’t I?

Jacuzzi pool hoist! ♿️🏊🏼♀️🚢 featuring Jennie Berry:
“I was buzzing to find this on board @royalcaribbeaneurope Symphony of the Seas, on a ship of all places!!! A great piece of kit to make life a lot easier for getting those who are unable to use steps.
How it works:
• Alert poolside staff (lifeguards at every pool and dedicated lifeguard station - on this point, as a former lifeguard, I’d just like to point out how fantastically trained the lifeguards are, going above and beyond in terms of assistance and strict rules in the pools with bottom of pool checks every few mins. I certainly felt incredibly safe in all of their pools as lifeguards didn’t take their eyes off all customers!) 👏🏼
• Head of housekeeping arrives with the battery to operate the pool hoist, along with 1 other staff member.
• This can ONLY be operated by staff, which is a slight downside, but they explained it’s due to how high they go, and if the ship rocks whilst I’m midair.
• The motor then lifts me up and over into the jacuzzi 🙌🏻
• Once in the water, I undo the seatbelt and slide into the jacuzzi 💧
• The process is simply reversed to get back out# again!
This particular ship has THREE pool hoists on board, this giving me options for which pool/jacuzzi I’d like to use. I’ve never had this before, and as a former water baby I was absolutely over the moon🤩! I spent hours in the pool in my element and would then transfer to the jacuzzi for short periods to relax 🧖♀️. The warmer water and jets really help soothe my aching hips so I was buzzing that this was an option for me!”
So, what do you think? Have you used a pool hoist in a jacuzzi before? Let me know if you’ve got any questions in the comments ⬇️🩵
