We did this tour with @ paradisescubapr (on IG) and our amazing guide took these incredible pics of the bioluminescent bay in La Parguera, Puerto Rico!
What makes the bay glow? Algae! From the @discoverpuertorico website: “Bioluminescent bays or “bio bays” are bodies of water where microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates grow in quantities large enough to produce a “glow-in-the-dark” effect called bioluminescence. When you paddle or splash the water, these organisms shine in a neon blue-green color, making the water look as if it was lit by billions of glowing stars.”
Fun fact- there’s only 5 bays where the dinoflagellate concentration is high enough to glow and Puerto Rico has 3 of them!

This tour was run by Caribbean Chilli Boats tour and costs about $65 per person. There’s a weight limit of 240 lbs for the water bikes and a height limit of 6”5.
You’re in for an adventure as this is such a relaxing experience while you take in amazing sights. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit! And I would definitely suggest wearing sneakers, water shoes, or something like a sporty sandal, I went with my @teva hurricanes and they were perfect.
La Parguera is located 110 km from San Juan and is a beautiful seaside destination.

San Juan is beautiful- but Puerto Rico is much more than its main capital city. That’s why I always suggest renting a car to make the most of your trip. Here are some places to help you get inspired:
La Parguera- a seaside destination in the southwestern region that’s surrounded by cays.
Things to do:
Go snorkeling in the bioluminescent bay with @paradisescubapr
Try your hand at water biking with Caribbean Chilliboat tours

Loiza- Loiza is only just past San Juan and has a distinct and rich African heritage

I really enjoyed my stay at the Dreamcatcher property. It felt like a hotel built inside of a garden. It’s also the only vegetarian hotel in San Juan.
I chose the Run of the House option and it was about $190 when I booked it. Prices of course range. My favorite aspect was my private terrace with hammock.
It’s located steps away from the beach and only about 10-15 minutes from the airport. I loved the ambiance and my breakfast was incredibleeee.
Consider a stay here the next time you visit San Juan.
