I work with a graphic designer. They’ve done posters and other graphics for me. You may be able to find lower prices for bookmarks. I like the relationship with this designer. You’ll find that a personal relationship with a designer is a wise investment. #writers #blackwriters #writingabook #writerlife #aspiringauthor #lesliecyoungblood #lesliesinfotips @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood
“A memoir is a narrative, written from the perspective of the author, about an important part of their life. It's often conflated with autobiography, but there are a few important differences. An autobiography is also written from the author's perspective, but the narrative spans their entire life.” -writersdigest

“What is memoir as a literary genre?
A memoir is a literary nonfiction genre in which the author recounts their experiences during a significant period of their life. They might focus on their childhood and family, a spiritual journey, their experience with fame, a big adventure, or many different but thematically related events in a collection of personal essays. These days, some memoirs are even graphic novels illustrated by the author.” —Grammarly #kwamealexander #memoir #writerlife #blackwriters #writers #writingabook @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood

#writers #blackwriters #blackwritersoftiktok #blackhistorytiktok Following the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863, President Abraham Lincoln called for the raising of Black regiments. Massachusetts Governor John Andrew quickly answered Lincoln's call and began forming the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment, one of the first Black regiments to fight in the Civil War. Black men from across the city, state, country, and even other nations, traveled to Boston to join this historic regiment, some of them responding to recruitment efforts of such luminaries as Frederick Douglass. Through their heroic, yet tragic, assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina in July 1863, the 54th helped inspire the enlistment of more than 180,000 Black men…a boost in morale and manpower that Lincoln recognized as essential to the victory of the United States and the destruction of slavery throughout the country. (Depicted in the movie, Glory)
If you can’t spend “five hours at it,” spend one. If that doesn’t work, spend half of that. But whatever time you spend, work on doing it consistently. Do it so often that it becomes a habit. #writers #blackwriters #aspiringauthor #lesliecyoungblood #tonimorrison @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood
We’re thankful she set the record straight. Tina Turner’s life story has empowered countless others.
Tina Turner began performing with musician Ike Turner in the 1950s. They became known as the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, achieving popular acclaim for their live performances and recordings like the top 5 hit “Proud Mary,” until Tina left in the 1970s after years of domestic abuse. Following a slow start to her solo career, Turner achieved massive success with her 1984 album Private Dancer. She went on to deliver more chart-topping albums and hit singles and was twice elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The revered singer with eight Grammys to her name later became involved in the spiritual Beyond project. Turner died May 24, 2023, at age 83.

ForeverThis Summer❤️
Georgie has no idea what to expect when she, Mama, and Peaches are plopped down in the middle of small town USA–aka Bogalusa, Louisiana–where Mama grew up and Great Aunt Vie needs constant care.
Georgie wants to help out at the once famous family diner that served celebrities like the Jackson 5 and the Supremes, but everyone is too busy to show her the ropes and Mama is treating her like a baby, not letting her leave her sight. When she finally gets permission to leave on her own, Georgie makes friends with Markie–a foster kid who'd been under Aunt Elvie's care–who has a limb difference and a huge attitude.
Then Markie asks Georgie to help her find her mom, and suddenly summer has a real purpose. But as Georgie and Markie's histories begin to entwine, Georgie becomes more desperate to find the truth. But words spoken cannot be taken back and once Georgie knows the truth, she may even find a way to right past wrongs and help Aunt Vie and Markie out after all.

In A Raisin in the Sun, the first play written by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway, she drew upon the lives of the working-class black people who rented from her father and who went to school with her on Chicago’s South Side. She also used members of her family as inspiration for her characters. Hansberry noted similarities between Nannie Hansberry and Mama Younger and between Carl Hansberry and Big Walter. Walter Lee, Jr. and Ruth are composites of Hansberry’s brothers, their wives and her sister, Mamie. In an interview, Hansberry laughingly said “Beneatha is me, eight years ago.”#writers #womenwriters #playwrights #blackwritersoftiktok #lorrainehansberry @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood

“No one knew how tired I was of singing and dancing. It’s work,” Turner told Oprah. She said the successful tour allowed her to retire in peace. “I wanted to retire and not worry. That is what that tour did for me. I got to my goal. I received at that moment a revelation of, ‘This is it. I’m going home now.’ I was going back to a place that I’d decided in my last stage that’s where I wanted to be.”
In her book My Love Story, she wrote about returning home with Bach the day after her final show: “I knew this was it. I got up the next morning, didn’t see anybody, and boarded the plane with Erwin. I sat there, still, calm, resolute. I took a deep breath and told myself, ‘I’m not going back.’” -0prahDaily #TinaTurner #writers #memoir #blackwriters #booklovers📚 @Author Life LeslieCYoungblood
