Johnson UWADINMA illustrates the ambiguity of humanity through this striking piece, showcasing the duality of man capable of both the best and the worst.
The scene depicts a character carrying a jerry can, responsible for an environmental disaster. Behind him, one can almost feel the warmth of the flames. He has just cut a pipe used to transport oil in order to collect this substance that he will sell for a few dollars. Does he even have an awareness of the consequences of his actions? The artist questions the collective responsibility of human beings for the damage inflicted on the environment. The evocative colors, subtle details visible on the character's clothing, and posture reveal the artist's perfect mastery of technique, imagination, and depth of reflection.

Dans cette œuvre, Ibrahima Balayara dénonce un fléau de nos sociétés actuelles : l'égoïsme. Selon l'artiste, la femme a le pouvoir de donner la vie, elle représente l'humanité toute entière. Il symbolise donc l'égoïsme de certains êtres humains par l'image d'une belle femme parée de cauris. Elle ne se préoccupe que de son apparence physique et s'acharne à accumuler des biens matériels à tout prix, même en ayant recours à des pratiques mystiques. Elle demeure indifférente aux problèmes sociaux et ne manifeste aucune compassion envers les souffrances qui l'entourent.

In this work, Ibrahima Balayara denounces a scourge of our current societies: selfishness. According to the artist, women have the power to give life; they represent all of humanity. He thus symbolizes the selfishness of some human beings through the image of a beautiful woman adorned with cowrie shells. She only cares about her physical appearance and relentlessly seeks to accumulate material possessions at any cost, even resorting to mystical practices. She remains indifferent to social issues and shows no compassion for the suffering around her.

Ibrahima Balayara dépeint avec beaucoup d’humour l’ambiance chaleureuse mais polluée de la ville de Dakar, qui semble étouffer à cause des embouteillages provoqués par les nombreuses voitures. Pour illustrer à quel point ces véhicules croulent sous le poids des passagers et des marchandises, l’artiste place des immeubles sur leurs toits. La nature essaie de se frayer un chemin tant bien que mal au milieu du béton. Des immeubles surgissent partout, même dans des endroits les plus insolites comme sur la tête du personnage central.

Ibrahima Balayara portrays with a lot of humor the warm but polluted atmosphere of Dakar city, which seems to suffocate due to traffic jams caused by numerous cars. To illustrate how these vehicles are overloaded with passengers and goods, the artist places buildings on their roofs. Nature tries to make its way through the concrete as best as it can. Buildings emerge everywhere, even in the most unusual places, like on the head of the central character.
