We shut off the water on the property until this gets fixed. We woke up to this surprise. It must have broken during the night. It was already drizzling rain outside last night, so all the water sounds just blended together. The hillside just came apart and slid into the lower driveway. The lost water is just heartbreaking, but at least we're not under the same drought conditions as we were a few months ago, plus we're sitting on top of the local water table, so it will all go back to where it came from. #burstpipe #water #landslide #waterdamage
The day after Fancy passed away, the owner of the property where the Learn & Grow Virtual Sustainability Learning Center and test garden is located donated the last surviving hen from her own little flock to ours. Meet Clara, who loves to be held and hand-fed. 💗 Things started out well at first, as you can see here, with Sam, but he's since become very aggressive around her, and we have to keep them apart. He keeps attacking her comb, which is now bloodied. We think he may mistake her for a rooster because of her comb, and he's itching for a fight but there is no other rooster here. We wouldn't want them tearing each other up if there were. #chickens #layinghens #rooster #chickensoftiktok
Fancy was under the weather for the last week, but she was also at least 8 years old. She hung out with Anne while she put together our new swing on Saturday, then later died of old age in Anne's arms after spending most of Sunday on the swing laying next to Anne while she worked from her laptop. As sad as we are to lose Fancy, it's a luxury for a chicken to die of old age, and we're glad we gave her a long, comfortable life. It's bittersweet. The flock is adjusting. #chickens #layinghens #chickensoftiktok #petdeath💔
