Regarding “your mom probably had a good reason to leave her family behind 60 years ago” and “it was a different time and you can’t begin to understand why she made the choices she did” oh and can’t forget “you’re opening up a can of worms that’s none of your business”
Knowledge is power and its much harder to end generational trauma when you don’t know the source of any of it. All people have a right to know where they came from and who their ancestors are. And it’s my personal opinion that keeping biological siblings separated their entire lives is just cruel.
In researching my family tree, I have learned SO much about my mother’s side of the family which we have been kept in the dark about all our lives. Information that goes a long way in explaining why she is the person she is. I’ve also connected with brand new family members who are lovely, fabulous people. I have ZERO regrets about diving headfirst into this rabbit hole!

My mom’s mood can change dramatically from one minute to the next and most of the time, its hard to have a conversation with her because she asks the same thing over and over again or she gets confused about whatever we’re talking about and then gets upset. Today, I took her to get a haircut and I think it put her in a good mood. We went to lunch and the thrift store and she seemed like her old self for awhile. I made sure to get a sneaky little video because these good days don’t happen very often. #elderlyparents #dementiacaregiver #dementia #mymom
