Welcome sweet little Bessie to Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue. 🐾💕 Bessie was picked up as an injured stray and taken to Robstown Animal Control. She was set to be euthanized today but luckily we had a foster step up to take her in. She has not put any weight on her back right leg and yelps in pain when we attempted to examine it, but when she is running around playing she acts like she isn’t in any pain. We still want to get her leg checked out so we have a vet appointment set up for her on Monday to see what’s going on.
We want to address the fact that a 3 month old puppy was going to be euthanized by animal control. This is NOT animal control’s fault and they should NOT be the ones who you should be upset with. They are simply doing their jobs. Do we wish things were different? Of course we do! But smaller animal control facilities like Robstown do not have a vet on staff or financial resources to take every injured dog to the vet that comes into their facility.
The people you should be mad at are the pet owners who allow their dogs to get picked up by animal control and leave them there to be euthanized. The irresponsible pet owners that do not take care what happens to their animals because they’ll just get another one. The careless pet owners who think dogs are simply just property and do not care if they roam the streets and risk getting hit by cars or attacked by other stray dogs, or pop out litter after litter while our shelters are overflowing, or get heartworms and die a slow, painful death, or even when their dogs get picked up by animal control and are euthanized. Those are the people you should be mad at. If more pet owners in Texas would just be more responsible, then our shelters wouldn’t be overflowing and animal control facilities wouldn’t have to euthanize dogs and cats.

Happy tails to Benji, Kai, Keanu and Keenan! 🐶 These sweet LAPP Dogs finally made it to their forever homes and are already in love with their new families. 🐾💕
Benji came to us from Robstown Animal Control. He was picked up as a stray when he was found as a solo pup without any other siblings or parents around. Our wonderful fosters Val, Valerie and Vannah saw this sweet baby and knew they needed to bust him out of doggy jail. They knew immediately Benji was so timid and shy, so he would need a patient family willing to work on his confidence. Little did they know, their role as his foster family already helped him gain so much confidence before he left. Instead of being scared when his new mom picked him up at transport, he was so happy to meet her and his tail wouldn’t stop wagging the whole way home. 💖
Kai, Keenan and Keanu came to us from Donna Animal Control, where in total we tagged the entire family of 10 and placed them in foster homes. (Yes, even momma, who is heartworm positive). When we got these sweet boys and their siblings, they were so dehydrated, had major diarrhea, and were so dirty that it took four days of bathing them with multiple different shampoos to get the stench out of their fur. It only took a couple of days for them to really come out of their shells and start acting like normal happy, playful puppies once they realized they were safe and able to let their guards down. Since then, these boys have been all smiles and tail wags. 💞

Four lucky LAPP Dogs head to their forever families today! 🐾💕 Keenan, Kai, Keanu and Benji are en route to meet their new moms, dads, human and furry siblings, and we can’t wait to see their first family photos together.
Transport day is always hard for our fosters. We get most of our pups when they are broken down, neglected, injured, and scared of the world. We care for them, love them, nurse them back to health and teach them what it’s like to be doted on and treated like a family member. We watch them grow into happy, healthy, loving and trusting LAPP Dogs ready to conquer the world. 💖 Then when we say goodbye to them, we always shed some tears. And it’s not because we don’t think they will have the best lives ever with their new families, but it’s because we remember them when they were at the worst point in their lives and we see just how much a little TLC can transform them into the amazingly sweet, happy fur-babies they are today. We love how our fosters take pride in fostering our LAPP Dogs and appreciate them so much.
We know our adopters are the best of the best. 💖 We sort through hundreds of applications to find the best match for each dog. It’s like finding a puzzle piece and fitting it perfectly into a puzzle to complete the final picture. Kade had his two week checkup today and he is a whopping 6.8 lbs now! 🎉 He still needs to continue filling out and gaining a little bit more weight, but we are so happy with his progress. From 3.8 lbs to 6.8 lbs in two weeks. He still hasn’t been cleared for adoption as we need to wait a couple of weeks to see how he thrives without daily Nutrical supplement that was being used to boost him up a bit. His foot is healing great and they don't see any signs of infection or ringworm anymore. 🐾💕
And the best news so far - a liver shunt doesn't seem to be a concern at this point and Dr. Cox thinks his condition was solely due to malnutrition. 🥺 Which means he will recover on his own, no surgery is needed, and he will get to live a long, happy life. 💖

Levi and Lexi got the thumbs up to go back to their foster home today! 🎉 They look so much better already and we can already tell they are so much more comfortable. 💖 Both pups had negative 4DX and fecals thankfully, so now we just have to treat the damage done to their skin due to the demodex mange and also the secondary infections in both of Levi’s ears.
Levi’s neuter went great, tick removal was a success, and his ears were cleaned and packed to start the healing process on the double ear infection. He will be wearing a cone for 10-14 days so he doesn’t knock the packing out of his ears by scratching at them, and also so he can heal from his neuter. He got a pain injection and will be on 30 days of Doxy to help fight any tick-borne illnesses if they do occur (it can take up to 30 days for it to test positive on a 4DX, so getting ahead of that now).
Lexi also had all of her ticks removed and also the concrete that was stuck on her fur/skin while under sedation. She got a nice ear cleaning as well since she had a bunch of ticks deep down in her ear canal like Levi did. She got the thumbs up to get spayed in 30 days once her skin heals up a bit. She got the luxury spa treatment with a medicated bath before she got her pain injection for her painful cracked, bleeding skin. She also got some medicated shampoo to continue healing her skin and secondary skin infection and also 30 days of Doxy.
🐾💕 We are so thankful for our wonderful vets at Windsor Park Animal Hospital. They not only were able to prioritize Lexi and Levi’s procedures, but they were kind enough to waive the overnight hospitalization fees, surgical laser fee and Polyflex injection fee so our total cost came out to $1,006.71. We have paid the balance in full already, but we could still use donations to help us out since we still have to plan for follow up appointments and Lexi’s spay surgery.

Welcome Lexi and Levi to Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue. 🐾💕 We received a plea from one of our favorite animal control facilities, Portland Texas Animal Care Services, and as soon as we saw these two faces we knew we had to help them. 🥺 Both pups were picked up together by a state trooper and taken to animal control. Her hearts broke for them and she offered to foster once their stray hold was up, so that helped us out tremendously knowing they had somewhere to go while they healed. Both Lexi and Levi were covered in some of the largest ticks we’ve ever seen. 😳 On top of that, it seems as if they also have mange. Imagine how much pain their poor little bodies are in right now. Their foster mom and dad spent the evening pulling what seemed to be a never ending amount of ticks off their bodies and from inside their ears, and after their baths, the poor pups immediately started showing signs of relief. 💖🐶 They have a vet appointment today to get 4DX tests, skin scrapes and medication to help their itchy, dry skin. We will find out at their appointment when we will be able to schedule their spay & neuter appointments as well. Welcome our newest LAPP Dog, Conan. 🐾💕 He was found in Refugio emaciated and alone by a busy road. He was so weak he could barely stand to eat. 🥺 His finder knew he wouldn’t survive if she left him there. She knew couldn’t keep him either, so she contacted a dear friend of ours involved with cat rescue, Cindy Matlock, who then reached out to us. Of course we immediately started working on a plan for sweet Conan and found a foster who would be able to take him in later in the week.
Thankfully his kind finder was willing to hold onto him for a few days until our foster’s current foster pup left on transport, and she even took him to the vet today so we could start getting this boy healthy. 💖
Conan only weighs 9.9 lbs and has a lot of catching up to do on his weight. He is believed to be a lab and corgi mix (as there were two adult dogs in that same area that he was found that have been popping out litters). Of course no one ever even looked for little Conan to claim him, which we think he’s better off anyways given the condition he was found in. He is sweet as can be and we can’t wait to see him thrive after a little TLC. 🥰

Welcome sweet, spunky Nina to Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue. This little girl was found as a stray in Corpus. Her finder saw her huddled in a storm drain and knew she wouldn’t survive the upcoming storms. Three days passed without anyone looking for her, of course not microchipped either, and sadly it seems as if she was just another unloved, unwanted dog in South Texas. 🥺
Well Nina will never have to experience feeling unwanted and unloved again. She has settled into her foster home seamlessly and is having a blast playing and wrestling with the resident cat, Onyx. 🐱💕
Nina will be spayed next Monday, and while she is there she will also receive a heartworm test. We are hoping that she is heartworm negative so that she can begin the search for her forever home soon and get to experience the life of a lucky LAPP Dog with a loving family. 🐾💕

Happy tails to Beau, Mochi, Ivy, Maia, Jax, Malakai, Hudson, Melina, Hamlet, Akira, and Mitzi. 🐾💕 These 11 lucky LAPP Dogs made it to their forever families this weekend and we are over the moon happy for each and every one of them.
These pups came to us through a variety of ways. Beau, Akira and Maia were strays picked up by our fosters and when no owners came forward to claim them, we made them official LAPP Dogs. While Maia was with us, she gave birth on the 4th of July to five healthy babies: Melina, Mitzi, Mochi, Malakai, and Minnie (who heads home next week). Ivy came to us from San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. Then Jax, Hudson and Hamlet came to us from Dilley Animal Control (Omar Hernandez).
Because our wonderful fosters opened their homes and hearts to our LAPP Dogs, we were able to provide them with the care they needed before finding their forever families. We cannot imagine where they would’ve been if no one stepped up to foster them, but all we can do is be grateful that they were the lucky ones and that they can have the best chance at having a bright future. 💖

Little Kade is the runt of the K litter and our Corpus director knew right away that something was wrong when she picked him up. His gums were pale white, he was very weak, two of his toes were splayed out, and he just wasn’t acting like a normal, happy, playful puppy like the rest of his siblings. She immediately started supplementing puppy formula with honey to try to give him a boost and called our vet at Cross Point to see if they could get him in ASAP. This morning she rushed him to the vet since they were able to squeeze him in as soon as they opened.
The good news first. His fecal came back clear, his heart and lungs sound great, and his temp was normal. We knew there was an infection in his foot so the vet did a Wood Lamp’s test, which lit up to show there was in fact an infection. He got an injection of antibiotics and medication to put on the area to treat it. He will also get another oral antibiotic in two weeks at his next appointment to help with a possible GI infection.
Because he is half the size of his siblings and much weaker, the vet suspects a liver shunt that is causing his malnutrition. He may grow out of it, but he may not and it could be a long term condition and he just won’t reach his full potential. Our vet was surprised there wasn’t also a heart condition because the two usually go hand in hand. We were instructed to look out for neurological problems because they may appear due to his body not processing protein correctly. Although Kade’s body is stunted in growth, we are determined to do everything we can to fight to give him the best chance at life because he deserves to experience love, happiness and a normal puppy life. 💖

We knew there was an infection in his foot so the vet did a Wood Lamp’s test, which lit up to show there was in fact an infection. He got an injection of antibiotics and medication to put on the area to treat it. He will also get another oral antibiotic in two weeks at his next appointment to help with a possible GI infection.
Because he is half the size of his siblings and much weaker, the vet suspects a liver shunt that is causing his malnutrition. He may grow out of it, but he may not and it could be a long term condition and he just won’t reach his full potential. Our vet was surprised there wasn’t also a heart condition because the two usually go hand in hand. We were instructed to look out for neurological problems because they may appear due to his body not processing protein correctly. Although Kade’s body is stunted in growth, we are determined to do everything we can to fight to give him the best chance at life because he deserves to experience love, happiness and a normal puppy life. 💖

Our newest LAPP Dogs are oh-so-adorable and are now dubbed the K litter. Welcome Keanu, Karter, Kahlo, Kaya, Kleo, Kamil, Kai, Kade, and Keenan to Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue. These are momma Rhea’s 9 babies, who has already started to come out of her shell and show her silly personality in her foster home that she’s already settled into. We can’t wait to watch these pups grow and flourish in their new foster homes.
All pups are happy and healthy except for the littlest runt, Kade. All of the other siblings weigh around 7 lbs and little Kade barely weighs 3.5 lbs. We will tell his story in a separate post since we found out a lot about what may be going on with him after his vet appointment this morning.

Welcome Rhea and her 9 babies to Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue. This sweet girl wound up in doggy jail with her 9 babies. Luckily we had a foster step up to take momma in since she was already separated from her babies, so she got to head to San Antonio to settle into her foster home last night and prepare for her upcoming vet appointments.
Rhea is heartworm positive so she will be a long term medical foster for at least 4 months. We already have her spay set up for next week and her first heartworm treatment exam is set up the first week of October after she finishes her Doxy.
All 9 of Momma Rhea’s babies will be joining Love And Puppy Paws Dog Rescue on Friday. 💖 Anyone who knows us knows that we do NOT leave anyone in a family behind when we are tagging dogs from shelters, so our first priority was getting momma into a foster home so we could start preparing and set her up with her spay appointment and heartworm treatments. Now that Rhea has settled in, we are planning on taking in her entire litter of 9 pups once some of our adopted puppies head home on transport this week. 🐾💕
We currently have two fosters willing to split the litter so one will have 4 puppies and the other will have 5. We would love to find a third foster home for 2 or 3 of the puppies so that all of the puppies will get more 1:1 time for socialization, leash and potty training. We will not be able to split just one puppy off to another foster as we think it is critical that they have another sibling to play with and also to learn socialization skills. Siblings tend to teach each other boundaries during playtime, so it’s very important to keep at least two or three together if possible.

Happy tails to Addie and Tanner 🐾💕 These adorable LAPP Dogs finally made it home to their forever families, and we know they are getting to live their best lives ever now!! 💖 Thank you to their amazing fosters, Lisa and Vanessa, for opening your homes and hearts to these two lucky LAPP Dogs. We wouldn’t have been able to give them bright futures without you!
Addie came from Portland Animal Control after she was picked up as a stray and waited a few weeks for her owners to come get her. She was adopted originally from Corpus Animal Control, had a microchip, but the microchip wasn’t registered and apparently CCACS couldn’t track down who actually owned her after she left their facility. 🙄 Addie was limping and terrified when she first came into the rescue, but after a few weeks in her foster home and a vet visit to check out her leg, we found that she simply had a luxating patella that needed some exercise to build up some muscle on that leg. She healed perfectly thanks to her foster mom taking her on lots of walks and outdoor adventures, which also helped Addie come out of her shell and build her confidence up. 💞
Tanner was found alone on a backroad outside of Robstown by Vanessa, who is the sister of one of our dedicated foster families and that has helped them with previous foster LAPP Dogs, too. Without hesitation, she scooped Tanner up and took him home. She committed to fostering Tanner and she did a wonderful job preparing him to go to his forever home, and her own fur-baby helped him build up his confidence, too!
Also a major thank you goes out to our Corpus director for always helping get our Corpus LAPP Dogs safely to transport!! 🎉 And of course, thank you to former LAPP Dog August for keeping them company on their journey.
