Our fav hiking tip ⬇️

Follow 👏 their 👏 lead 👏

Your children learn and absorb information best when they are doing an activity they love, or being curious about something that may not be very interesting to you, but to them it is the coolest thing in the world. Allowing child-led activities and adventures builds communication skills and helps children learn how they can influence their surroundings.

Here are some tips for starting child-led play & adventures:

• Start by noticing what your child is interested in. It could be something they’re playing with, like a stick or ball, or something they’re doing, like jumping through puddles.

• Ask your child if you can join in on what they are interested in/doing

• Go along with what your child is doing. If they throw a rock into a lake, you join in and try skipping the rock. Stay focused on the activity. Avoid distracting your child or changing the way the activity is happening.

•Ask questions or comment on what you’re both doing. For example, ‘That was a big throw – Did you see that splash!’ Give your child time to respond.

• If your child changes to something new, let them be the leader. For example, if they stop playing with rocks, and start examining plants, move to examining plants with them.
