Death As A Tool of the Oppressor by K Mataōtama Strohl (They/Them)

[Image Descriptions: Highlights and title page blocks created by Medium from K's article titled "Where I First Saw Me". The highlights say
Fear and shame are tools of the oppressor. , These tools are constantly being used in various ways and it is now more than ever that we need to name these tools anywhere we see them being used., “I had reasoned this out in my mind; one of two things I had the right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other.”- Harriet Tubman, The biggest fear being thrown in our faces is the fear of death. Specifically, the fear that we will be killed for speaking against oppression in any and all forms. , We have access to truth more than ever before. We are closer to death than ever before. These truths drive out fear. This closeness drives out shame., Death is an inevitable part of life; this is a fact that is freeing and should not be used as a tool for power and greed. Audre Lorde told us that “the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house.”, When we prioritize the fear of death over the pursuit of an oppression-free life for all, we build with the master’s tools. The next time you fear death please think about where it is coming from." Trauma Doesn’t Skip Generations by K Mataōtama Strohl (They/Them)

[Image Descriptions: Highlights and title page blocks created by Medium from K's article titled "Where I First Saw Me". The highlights say As we watch the genocide of Palestinians be supported by so many world leaders, including the United States of America, I am reminded of what happens when trauma is not addressed. This article on how the Holocaust is being weaponized to justify the suffering of others is a glaring example of what happens when we don’t acknowledge and heal from harm that’s been caused to us and our communities. Similar to the way Black communities globally have had our healing excruciatingly prolonged because of re-written history that refuses any true acknowledgement of the atrocities our ancestors experienced or that we continue to experience. All these uncared for wounds are bound to be internalized or spread to others. Without radical honesty we are doomed to repeat history. So many hurt little boys desperately trying to fill their emptiness with power and greed are leading this world and refusing to acknowledge the pain they feel or that they are causing others. This lingering pain will be passed down and our world will never know “peace” because of it. The Two White Girl Rule by K Mataōtama Strohl (They/Them)

[Image Descriptions: Highlights and title page blocks created by Medium from K's article titled "The Two White Girl Rule". The highlights say My son is currently obsessed with Strawberry Shortcake and the Beast of Berry Bog on Netflix. , As Netflix recommends other shows for us to watch I am reminded of the “Two White Girl Rule”. The rule is if there is a group of girls that aren’t all White, then at least two of them must be. Of course their hair color must be different and this must imply they are nothing alike and deserving of the own individual in-depth stories. The rule also requires that if only one non-White girl is involved she must be either ambiguous as hell or her physical features along with a one-off sentence must be the only way to assume anything about her cultural background., Netflix’s recommendations along with animated shows from my childhood are products of “the Two White Girl Rule” which itself is a product of White Supremacy., It also almost always doubles down on the big ass racial umbrellas, never giving any depth to the culture, values or traditions of girls featured that are not White because what else is there to know about them other than their skin color and/or eye shape?, To be clear this is a rule I made up but have seen it followed so many times. ]
