Basking in post session-glow after an amazing coaching session. What my client said to me today that keeps resonating with me, is the way she feels about herself and her life since working together is just so different from where she was before. These words light me up from within because by living with extreme health challenges I have experienced how precious life is and the importance of doing the working - making the changes to transform. We deserve to have our inner voice reflect each of OUR personal beliefs, opinions, values and view points that are authentic to each of us. What I see with my clients and myself is that much of our inner dialogue is often not our own. When you say something to yourself internally, ask yourself..
“Is this really mine?”
You may find like my clients have that much of their internal messages and beliefs are not their own - they are are often those of family members or society. In order to begin to find your own voice:
- identify whose voice it is , and decide if it is serving you.
- To release their opinion from your inner dialogue, you can write it down and cross it out in red & then throw it out to signify that you are done buying into someone else’s narrative and that you are ready to create your own.
-Then reach out to resources like: meditation, QiGong and pulling cards (some of my go-to approaches) to help you get back to your center.

Self-advocacy skills are not only essential when navigating the medical world. They are also necessary in your everyday life. Finding your voice - by figuring what is true for you at this point in your life - your thoughts, opinions, and beliefs - not those of others that you have integrated into ypur system throughout the years. By finding your voice - you become more of who you are - more aligned and attuned with your authentic self. In time, a renewed self-view will emerge. So, are you desiring to become your own advocate? Throughout my life I was often asked how can you be this strong? Followed by, I could never be this strong! I always knew that they could. What I noticed is that there are skills, tools and approaches that I use to help me to be strong, resilient, live as fully as possible through all my health challenges and continue to have a love for life. If you have fallen off on keeping up with routines that help vou - ones that help vou identify as healthy despite a diagnosis. If vou have let a routine or two (or ten (al) get off track - this is your reminder because I just did it for myself today - you can get back to it and it doesn't even have to look exactly as it did before. Just start doing it again - I began my gratitude journal again which I usually do daily but I was a month behind. So I decided to switch it up for this month and do a list for the month rather than the day. What is a routine that you want to begin again? Just begin again (in whatever way feels right at this ltime.

Self-advocacy is a skill that has enabled me to view myself as healthy and live my life as fully as possible through all my health challenges. Being vigilant and diligent will help you become your own advocate - by taking note of what and how you are feeling and writing that information down will empower you to be able to advocate because you can use that information to help you to get what it is that you need! Self-advocacy is empowering. It can remind you that you have the power to take control of the situation- to choose an identity and self view that serves you and live your life as fully as possible!

As someone that lives with ongoing health challenges - experiencing uncertainty is certainly something that I am familiar with (more do than I would like to be😊). From this I have found ways to gain a sense of control when things feel out of my control by focusing on what I can control - having plans in mind for multiple possibilities, as well as knowing that I can control how I eat, if/when/how oftenI exercise, how I think, feel, act and react. Navigating health challenges can often involve different iterations of loss: loss of a sense of self, loss of how your body functions as it did prior, loss of control etc. These are three tips that have helped me as I navigated loss throughout my health challenges:
- creating a self-view that serves you (continuing to identify as being healthy)
-problem solving by planning for what you can fo!
- Baby steps (micro-steps) - one small step after another makes a big difference.
