Here’s 3 ways I’ve doubled my energy and focus working from home, using simple hacks and the power of our senses - and you can too. No new tech or software required!

1. Move: Every 25-30 minutes, get up! It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting or on a standing desk. Unless I’m in the middle of a call, I take a 2-5 minute break to move my body - do some jumping jacks, stretches, pushups, or get a drink refill.

2. Scent: Research has shown the tremendous benefits scent has on memory, emotions, as well as mood and even productivity. You probably think about what you eat & drink, listen to, see, touch - but do you think about what you smell? I started adding scents to my routine and love the pleasure of it as well as the boost of positivity and focus it gives me. Candles, diffuser, or pure essential oils all work. I started using candles because it’s the easiest to use regularly and make a habit - and created Go Candles to have 100% natural scents without any of the bad stuff.

3. Fast: Intermittent Fasting is a great hack to increase energy, focus, and save time. This involves eating only within specific hours of the day and fasting the rest of the time. While it may sound scary, you’ll be surprised how your body can get used to it. The ideal time to fast is in the morning - by skipping breakfast and having your first meal around 11 or 12, and drinking water, tea, and coffee (extra points for Bulletproof Coffee!). For me, it became easy to adjust - and I’ve gained so much time back not thinking about and using my energy to focus on getting my best work done early in the day.

Making the design and selecting the right candle vessel isn’t easy. Here’s how we did it 👇🏼

1. The first vessels we used were gold tins, provided by our aromatherapist who made our test versions by hand in her kitchen. We liked the size and portability of the tin, which we came back to.

2. The second version was designed by a designer on Fiverr, while the glass vessel was selected by our first supplier who made the samples. The design was OK - but feedback was that it didn’t represent the high-performer and luxury feel of the brand.

3. After a few more variations, we decided on the black tins as our vessel. They are small, sleek, and look great on your desk or table and are easily portable. They also won’t break if dropped, like glass. The logo and label was designed by a top notice product designer we brought on to take our look to a higher level and represent the entrepreneurial look and feel of our brand.

The design and vessel process took well over 6 months as an iterative process. When someone asked why we spend so much time and thought on the design, the answer is simple. A candle is not only about its scent, but also how it looks. You want a candle that not only creates a great smell and atmosphere in your space, but looks great when it’s closed or lit.

We’re constantly working on new product improvements - including new larger vessels and embossed tins instead of stickers. Give us your feedback on what kind of candle vessels you like best!

What’s the most important thing to know when you have an idea?

It’s really simple - just do it. I first heard this from a startup founder I worked with who solid his company for $30M, and never even graduated from college. I’ve told it to many aspiring entrepreneurs and most importantly, to myself. You’re probably thinking, hey! It’s not that simple, what do you mean just “do”?!

Let me explain a bit more.

There are tons of courses, classes, workshops, strategies, etc etc on how to start a business. It doesn’t matter what kind. But the foundational principles are the same no matter what you do. As alex hormozi says, business is hard - but very simple. Many people get stuck and overwhelmed by planning too much, waiting for perfect conditions, or with destructive self talk.

The strategies and tools are of course critical - but they are meaningless if you don’t do. That’s why I’m putting myself and our journey out here in public and sharing, that’s why we did our best launch right away, and that’s why we keep building and growing. There is so much you can learn, but experience is the best teacher.

So if you have an idea for someting you want to do - go for it! Along the way you’ll pick up new skills and strategies and doors will open. Let’s go!
