There’s something so special about working with Broderie Anglaise.
The needlwork technique is stunning and you can buy so many different variations which is fab!
But what i love most of all is it’s cotton!!
Its just a cotton dress.
Which means you can easily dress it up or down, all depending on what mood you are in that day 🙌

Its soooo important to try on your garments as you are making them.
If you don’t, you wont know if they are exactly how you want them to look until it’s too late!
By that stage you have to unpick and coreect where necessary….and who wants to do that 🤔

Don’t waste money on poor quality fabric! It will only bring a world of pain when it comes to garment construction.
Good quality fabric doesn’t mean expensive - although some can be. It means how the cloth has been woven.

Working with Lace is not as easy as it may look!
It all depends on what you’re making
👉 evening dress
👉 tailored jacket
👉 pencil skirt…
But when you’re creating bridalwear, the choice of Lace is so important!!
And a lot bridal Laces are beaded - so you have to be extremley careful when cutting out your shapes.
So when I created this capsule collection of Lace Capelets, I really learn’t how to carefully cut out my shapes and appliqué the necklines and hems to look as seamless as possible.
This technique is something i will be teaching in my upcoming Lace Appliqué Workshop.

I tailored Tonya’s Dress & Coat using a 💯 Silk Dupion and appliquéd the exquisite French Lace in a contrasting colour to make to it pop!
My passion for old school craftsmanship goes wayyyy back, and lace appliqué is part of that passion.
Its not just a skill in sewing but also in designing and placing of the Lace to maximise it’s beauty and create something truly original!
There’s no doubt about it, some Lace fabrics are trickier to work with than others, but once you know how - the rest is easy!

To not sketch out your design ideas in the long run limits you from your own potential as a fashion designer maker.
It doesn’t matter if you can draw or not - just get those ideas down and you will see how far you can stretch your imagination 😍
