When Intrepid and Growler were in service, LGBTQ+ service members had to serve in silence. The 1994 law Don't Ask, Don't Tell was supposed to make life easier for them. It did not.
On this day in 2011, Don't Ask, Don't Tell finally ended, freeing gay, lesbian and bisexual sailors to serve openly.
